Default What can I expect after miscarriage?

I miscarried last week and wonder what to expect. How long will I bleed? When will I be able to have sex? How soon could I be fertile afterwards? When will I have a regular period again? We have assumed after 12 years of unprotected sex I was infertile not giving Glucophage the credit it deserved for straightening out my system. After 2 years on that I became pregnant, VERY BIG and wonderful surprize, but sadly the baby was lost a week after we found out at 6 weeks old..... now I want to get pregnant again as soon as I can, MD said to wait 3 months. Any one have a similair experience? It is all new to me and I appreciate the direction you can all give me.

Hi Angie,

I'm sorry to hear about you m/c.

I had an early m/c a couple of weeks ago to

I may be wrong (so anyone feel free to correct me) but my Dr told me that I could try again whenever I felt ready to physically, emotionally etc. I decided within a few days that I wanted to try again straightaway.

As far as bleeding is concerned I just had a 'normalish' period (I miscarried at 4-5 weeks so not sure if it would be different for you), which lasted 5-6 days. As for being fertile......well, I'm on CD20 and no sign of 'O' yet but I'm not giving up yet since I 'O'd CD35+ when I got pregnant last time!

As for sex, well I needed my dh at that time and was ready for this as soon as the bleeding stopped but everyone is different.

I think it is very positive that you became pregnant in a relatively short space of time on Metformin (considering you had been ttc 12 years) and I know you won't feel that way now because it is still so raw but you will see soon that you actually managed to conceive and WILL do again and there has to be a positive side to something that is so traumatic.

I wish you luck and please feel free to ask any more questions you need.

I hope this helped a little.

Andrea.

Angie,

Have you started bleeding yet?

Its been 2 days since my miscarriage(I still havent gotten my beta results or an U/S...so I Dont know exactly what is going on) but I havent had any bleeding, I had a little bit of brown discharge today, only tiny amts, twice today and nothing else that I could see. No bleeding, whatsoever...

Im just really confused, have you started bleeding at all?

katt.

Hi Angie,

I'm sorry to hear about this happening to you. How are you feeling?

After each of my miscarriages, the doctor wanted me to wait one cycle to give my ovaries a chance to rest, because I conceived after injectibles and IUI or IVF all 3 times. All of my m/c's were early, like yours. I would think that, unless you have some other medical reason to wait, you should be able to try again when you feel up to it. It might be a good idea to wait at least month, just to give your body and your heart a little time to deal with everything.

As for the bleeding, for me it was always like having a heavy period that lasted a day or two longer than it should, with some spotting for a couple days after. But, everyone is different. If the bleeding doesn't stop in a reasonable amount of time, call your doctor.

I'll keep you in my prayers.

Debbie

I guess it is more a like then we actually think. I bled for 3 days after my m/c with a bit more cramping then usual. The doctor told me and my bf to start trying whenever we felt like it. Just to try again and hope for the best. Take your time and judge how you feel before you try again. If you feel up to it then go ahead!!!! If not just take it easy! **big hugs** m/cs are not easy! Keep your chin up!

Just a little info - your actual "cycle" won't start until that HCG gets to 0. You can't really go by the date of the m/c. I m/c on May 2nd, and on May 14th, my HCG was still present (9). The doctor said that when it reached 0, I could expect AF 4 to 6 weeks from then. I am sure the sooner in the pregnancy you were, the sooner your HCG will reach 0, and the sooner AF will come. I am going to wait to TTC again. If it happens - it happens. I think the general rule of thumb is after the first AF.
