Default what can I expect next????

I am new to site although I have been reading posts and info for a few weeks now. I just recently went to my family doctor because of irregular periods (about every 8 months or so) She tested all of my hormone levels my thyroid and did an ultra sounds of the uterus. My ultrasound found numerous small cysts but all of my hormone levels she said are within normal range?? She has referred me to a obgyn because she is sure it is PCOS. My question is if it was PCOS wouldnt my hormone levels be funky??? I have been TTC since 2000. I have a 6 year old son and I got pregnant with him the month I started trying. But since him I have gone longer and longer with out having periods. What can I expect when I go to the OBGYN?? Is she going to repeat everything I have already had done or will she just start me on medicine?? I am soooo sorry to ramble I am just confused and feel lost. PLEASE HELP. I do not know what to expect next??

Welcome to SC! I too have hormones in the "normal" levels. However, my LH is twice that of my FSH - these should be more like 1:1. Also, while in the normal range, my androgen levels are on the high end of the range.

Have your doc check your insulin levels (fasting and 2 or 3 hour glucose tolerance test). My blood sugar is normal, but my fasting insulin levels were 17, which clearly indicates insulin resistance (really that could be anything over 10).

I hope your ob/gyn can come up with answers - if not, I strongly recommend finding an endocrinologist or reproductive endo. They seem to be the most familiar with PCOS and treatments. HTH

You sound just like me. I too have a child already, he is seven. And we too are trying for number two. I just went to the doctor and he put me on Metformin he told me to give that a chance and if in a few months it doesn't work then we are going to try clomid. Just know that you are not alone!!!

Thank You so much for the input. I am just nervous about going to the OBGYN. I am so thankful for this site to be able to chat with people with the same condition. Once I was told about the cycsts I just assumed I wouldn't be able to have another child. I will definatly ask the dr to do a fasting insulin test. Do they normally do this before they prescribe Metformin or Chlomid?? Is the Metformin something that you stay on indefinatly or is it a temporary fix to try to regulate periods??

Thanks again so much for the input!!

Here is some excellent info on Metformin: Metformin FAQ
    Hope this helps.
Met rules! It cleared my brain fog, brought back af, helped me lose weight, made me o' again, and helped me get pregnant. My first Metformin miracle is now 5 years old, my second (surprise one) just turned 2.
