Arrow What can I take for breakfast "to go"?

I need some ideas for a on the go breakfast... I sleep as late as I can & then run out the door. I usually take a South Beach cereal bar, an apple (or some time other fruit), & a cheese stick or yougurt & eat @ work... Latley I have even taken a bowl of cereal & a to-go cup of milk...

I'm just getting tired of the same-o-same-o... I try to eat "good for me" foods & like whole grains & suff good for PCOSers, but not on any particular "diet"...

Any ideas welcome... I like about just about everything !!

Thanks!

Jill

If you grate cheese the night before and get up 5 minutes earlier, you could scramble an egg with some salsa, add the cheese and roll it into a whole wheat tortilla for a quick, hand held breakfast.

Fruit salad is good, and can be made the night before, too. Treat yourself to some tropical fruits. They can cost a bit more, but a little can go a long way.

Smoothies are always a great way to go. See the Magic Bullet thread for info about the best appliance to make them with.

For something different, I microwave eggbeaters with a little grated reduced fat cheese and some green onions or chives. Toss is a piece of candian bacon on a toasted whole wheat english muffin and wa-lah - an egg mcmuffin. Yum!

I've been making microwave frittattas...quick and easy. (there's another thread on it in this forum...)

Hey Jill,

I am exactly like you and love my sleep ins! Thankfully my office is only walking distance from home and I can sleep in until about 8:30am and still be at work by 9am.

My dietician recommended a product we have here in Australia called Up&Go. It's a liquid breakfast with lots of protien and fibre and I thought it wouldn't be enough for brekky, but it is strangely satisfying.

The product is made by Sanitarium, but perhaps you could look for something similar where you live.

I'm a great fan of the breakfast bars, but I too get bored of the same thing. Lately I've been making little containers of yoghurt and muesli that I can eat on the way to work too.

Hope this helps.

Call me a lazy bum, but I drink a slimfast Optima every morning, Creamy Milk Chocolate every time. It has tons of vitamins, a healthy dose of protein, and is easy to just grab on my way out the door.

I love the idea of something quick, but doesn't all those slim fast drinks and bars have tons of sugar in them? I'm diabetic and don't need THAT to start my day with! I"d be in a coma before lunchtime!

Something else - while it is not quite as portable - I really like oatmeal. SB only allows the full cook so you get all the whole oat things - I use one packet of Splenda and some cinnamon or toss in some fresh blueberries and microwave. I can eat it at my desk at work if I am running late. I don't know if you work somewhere if you can eat at work or not - I can. Sometimes that turns out to be a curse, closest office to the darn kitchen. Argh!

Great thread to be coming back to the boards on.

I have issues with mornings. *chuckles*

I have to be at work by 8 - i live 45 minutes away from work - so, i'm up at 6 - in the shower - dressed and ready by 6:30 - then the last half hour is me making my lunch which is usually a nice big salad and getting my munchies together for the rest of the day. (veggie stix usually)

I LOVE the idea of the breakfast bars - but the sugars drive me crazy.

I've tried the SlimFast stuff - the Optima - but i have this problem with "feeling full" - i want/need to feel full/satisfied - and those little finger sized bars just didn't do it for me.

I was taking a protein shake by GNC which is actually quite tasty - and uses Splenda - so the sugars aren't a big deal for me - but i wanted somethign else to actually "eat" with it. But it's gotta be quick.

Does anyone have suggestions for good breakfast/snack bars avaialable in the US (in grocery storse preferrably) with low sugars/sugar substitutes?

Default hi

well although i don't have to go anywhere this is what i have for breakfast. in the blender i put: 1 apple (fuji, or red)
1 cup of 2% milk
1/2 cup oatmeal (uncooked)

this shake really fills you up and you can change the piece of fruit to a banana or other sweet fruits, hope you try it and like it.

The slim fast optima drinks have less sugar and carbs than the regular drinks do.
