I had my first m/c at 28 which is not all that old... it was a blighted ovum so it was a bad egg... bad egg can happen any time. I have read of 22 year olds having multiple blighted ovums. More likely as you age, but can happen any time.
There are lots of reasons for m/c. Bad egg. Progesterone may be too low to support pregnancy. Uterine lining may not be so great. Baby may be developing abnormally and stops growing. Blood clot can stop blood flow to baby. Or maybe just bad luck. Any of these things can be due to hormones... chemical exposure... IR... blood clotting factors... chomosomal disorder... or just... bad luck.
One m/c is not necc. cause for concern... chances are good next time will go better. In many cases a true cause for the loss is never found - it's just bad luck - which is both good news and frustrating. You want something you can fix... but sometimes all you can do is hope for the best and be patient.

"We've tried to wash our hands of all of this
We never talk of our lacking relationships
And how we're guilt-stricken, sobbing, with our heads on the floor
We fell through the ice when we tried not to slip..."
