my boyfriend and i had unprotected sex ... the first time for both of us. i have pcos, so i am not sure when my period is coming, when i am ovulating, etc.... what are my chances of being pregnant? (if this helps at all the first day of my last period was june 25th... we had sex on july 12th. so what are my chances?
(btw ... i am 23 and have been with my boyfriend for 2 years, so no rude comments please)
I don't think that anyone can honestly answer your question. PCOS affects each of us differently. Some have fertility issues while others don't. All I can say is Good Luck!

If you don't know when you ovulated (or if you did), then there really is no way of knowing if you were fertile at the time of intercourse. Are you trying to chart or anything to determine if you are ovulating?

Lilflutterby -
You were on Cycle Day 17 when you had sex. It depends on the length of your cycles and whether or not they are ovulatory. (You can still bleed in an anovulatory cycle). The phase prior to ovulation is usually what determines the varying length in your menstrual cycle (ie, 31 days vs 33), since the luteal phase (the phase that occurs after ovulation) is usually the same # of days each month for an indiviudal woman, although the lengths vary from woman to woman. Luteal phases range from 10-15 days between different women, with shorter phases for those women who may have issues (ie, not enough progesterone). Without knowing your specific luteal phase, it is hard to estimate when you might have been fertile this month.
Also realize that an egg only lasts 12-24hrs, but sperm can last up to 5 days, so there is actually a longer window for getting pregnant if the sex happened just before you ovulated. If you want to get a better handle on when you might be ovulating, I would recommend researching basal body temperature monitoring. Toni Weschler has written an excellent book on the subject, entitled "Taking Charge of your Fertility"
Cheers,
Dianna

I'd like to second Dianna - "Taking Charge of your Fertility" is great. Not only does it teach you, but it explains why you are doing different things to understand how your body works.

August,
According to TCOYF, elevated temps 16 days past ovulation indicate pregnancy. Since she is unsure of when she might have ovulated (and prior cycles are not very good as predictors for how long a future cycle might be), if she takes a pregnancy test 5 days + 16 days beyond when she had sex, she should be covered.... The 5 days for the theoretical time sperm can live waiting for you to ovulate, and 16 days to cover the period of time a normal luteal phase would happen (10-15 days). so 21 days past July 12th, whatever that works out to be...
Cheers,
Dianna
