Default What comes after Clomid?

I'm on my third round of clomid with my OBGYN he says if this is unsuccesful it's back to the RE for me

I got pregnant my first round of clomid with the RE and now nothing. I really like my OBGYN he's who will take care of me when I get pregnant since he's a high risk OB not that I don't like my RE he's great also.

I'm just wondering what might come after clomid? I'd like to get some ideas so I can call my insurance company to see what exactly is covered (I have some infertility coverage)

Well my friend did clomid (3 cycles)and it didn't work so then the dr tried femara and IUI with a trigger shot. That new combo worked! GL!

It really depends... have you Ov'ed on Clomid and not got pregnant, or not even Ov'ed?

If you have Ov'ed, they may try another couple rounds. They might also suggest other testing, an HSG to check your fallopian tubes (even if you've had it done in the past, they may want it redone to see if anything has changed)

Whether you have Ov'ed or not, they might also suggest trying Femara, which is another pill like Clomid but not FDA approved for fertility treatments (which is why many doctors will still not use this though).

Or they may possibly suggest moving on to injectable FSH medications (like Follistim, Gonal-f, or Bravelle) Which require monitoring with ultrasounds, blood work, and injecting daily with a trigger shot at the end of it... and it gets very pricey if you have to pay out of pocket for it.

Hope that helps some.

Yep I've ovulated each and every time on clomid which is why my doctor is stumped he really thought I would get pregnant last cycle. I had an HSG last year but had a D&C since then so I wouldn't mind getting another one to make sure there isn't scar tissue preventing conception. I might bring that up on my next appointment.

When you start to see an RE, you could simply add IUI to the routine. It could be that you now have sperm antibodies in your cervical mucus. A lot of women on Clomid have VERY hostile CM that isn't kind to sperm. So the IUI bypasses that.

I did hear that and so I bought some Pre-seed to try this month Clomid does a real number on my CM (there is almost none of it) Maybe that's my problem. I'd really love to not have to do anything other than Clomid since I will have a lot of out of pocket expenses once I do get pregnant (I'm very high risk) I don't want to have to use our nest egg yet lol

Cheri, you may want to add Mucinex to your routine. Take 1200mg a day. It loosens the CM. Otherwise, it can be so thick that you never notice it but that's part of why it can be so hostile. I did the Mucinex thing the last three Clomid cycles I was on and I noticed a huge difference in my CM.

Is that just regular Mucinex? I might have to try that thanks!

I'm considering trying an IUI. It's about $300 at my doctor's office w/o insurance coverage. If you are O'ing but not getting pregnant this could help the process along. I haven't noticed my CM being thick on Clomid, but I never got the stretchy, EWCM. IT was mostly watery/lotiony. We did use Pre-Seed, but...didn't work.

The IUI is certainly an option, it isn't too pricey and some offices offer a package deal for the sperm wash and IUI. Some do them as separate charges. Anyway, the Mucinex is just the normal one. I was taking the Target brand of guaifenesin. Works the same but costs less.

When I went in for CD12 u/s last cycle, the doctor who did the u/s (it was the first time I met him) asked me if we were doing IUI or timed BD. He said IUI will usually double the chances. I'd like to try couple more cycles before moving on to adding IUI though....

IUIs don't double your chance. Actually, the percentage chance that you may conceive is 20-25%. Good percentage, it's the same percent as a woman without PCOS who has a "normal" cycle has. I do timed BD and IUI. No harm in that, my RE actually tells me when I am to BD before and after IUI.
