Default What is considered Low Carb?

I was just diagnosed with PCOS on Tuesday and Wednesday I started the Glucophage. I haven't talked to my doc since, oh, about a week ago. He had his nurse put my prescrip in. (Military medical world). No one ever said anything about low carb. *** How many grams of carbs should I stay under?*** I already eat pretty low carb and low fat and high protien. I usually try to eat less than 200gr of carbs, less than 30gr of fat and about 50gr of protein a day.

Last time I tried atkins I found out that I can't eat any type of lettuce. It makes my stomache cramp really bad.

The only high carbs I eat are brown rice, potatoes, and occationaly whole grain bread for sandwiches.

I haven't had any side effects yet, but I also haven't eaten since about 6am ( I currently live on a night schedule, so I just got up).

I am kinda afraid to eat anything with all the side effects of Gluc I have read about on this board.

it seems like all of the different diets~the zone, atkins, ir~all have different ideas about how low in carbs you need to go. i'm trying to stick at 50 grams or less~i totally cut out bread, pasta, potatoes, rice, etc~that's keeping my sugar intake pretty low too. what i did was just start researching all of the different diet plans online, one by one, and writing down the parts that i thought would be workable for me. i'm still pretty new at all of this too and there's so much info out there! make sure you eat with the Gluc though, or you might really feel sick!

Most popular low carb diets are 20 to 30 g per day. I follow the IR diet, and eat a more moderate carb diet...50 g most days but a maximum of about 70 on my 'splurge' day. I also eat a protien with every meal to slow the insulin spike and watch my fats.
