Default What is the deal with bedroom size??

I toss the idea of adoption around in my head now and then. I like the appeal of one more child without fertility hell and baby years hell... ie I would want an older child, maybe preschool age...

But is there some deal about bedroom size?? And what is it?

Our house has "four" bedrooms. Two are ginormous - 12X15 or so. One of these is me and DH's, one is my 2 girls'. One room is 11X9 and my son has it. The fourth is our computer room which is 11X7.5 or so. It's SMALL. It could be a bedroom. I don't worry about lack of space for toys or whatever because there is a big room downstairs we use as a toy room. When the kids are older we plan to make the toy room the kid's "office." For computers, homework, etc. If we biologically had another kid and it was a girl we could easily fit it in the girls' room - if a boy we could make do with the small room for him. But don't they hold you to stricter standards with adoption??

I am not sure where I got this idea but I must have gotten it somewhere.

We are in PA if that matters.

Hey Runner!
I have an idea of what you might be talking about .... in Ontario Canada, it's a CAS standard, and its not room size, is room capacity. There are rules in regards to what children can share a room, and how many to a room.

So I think in the US it will more have to do with a CPS legislation, or even HUD - Department of Housing and Urban Development . Though my investigative skills are lacking tonight, those might be a good jumping off point for ya to research with

Or maybe there will be a PA adoptive mom that knows right off the top of their head too. Never know!

RunnerDuck -- When we adopted DS1 (in PA) it was through a private agency, but there were no published requirements on room size. I will go later and measure DS2's room, but it is TINY and even if we were to put DS1 in there during the adoption it wasn't a problem that we were told about. We WERE told that only children of the same gender could share a room and no more than 2 to a room (if memory serves). If you are thinking about an older child I would contact an agency that deals with older child adoption and ask them the questions that you might have. I BELIEVE that for foster/adopt (in PA) the child's bedroom and the adult's bedroom must be on the same level of the house (ours are not, so it would be an issue... same with my parents and my mom would love to now that we are all grown).

I will come back after I measure that room later.

Pam
