I purchased a guide from a UK site that has a program you can belong to that helps you with diet, etc but it was kind of expensive. I need to lose weight BIG time along with insulin resistance, hair loss and irregular periods that need to be fixed. Also I get so bloated if I eat a lot of carbs. I tried Atkins before but didn't lose much. Was hoping a PCOS diet could help.
Any suggestions you can offer I'd be gracious... books to read, etc.
Welcome Tori! You have found an excellent resource for PCOS and an awesome community of cysters too!
I had an awful time with Atkins too... and at that time I was only looking to lose like 15 pounds. My doctor advised that I watch the glycemic index on the foods I eat and to eat 6 times a day. It requires a lot of planning to be able to accomplish that at work, but I do feel better!
Best wishes in your health quest!

I can only speak for what has been working for me, but I can tell you the real key for me was NOT dieting. I dieted for 20 years and just got fatter and fatter! I stopped dieting per se, and since I did so, have lost 15kg and seem to be continuing.
I found www.normaleating.com really useful, as it helped me learn how to stop feeling guilty about food and stop viewing foods as bad or good. I've re-trained my body to recognise when it's hungry and when I just want food because I feel bad, or I'm bored, or stressed. The minute I ended my war with food I started to lose weight.

Personally i had a great weight loss on atkins.. But didnt stay on the diet and gained back 25lbs out of the 90lbs i lost and i am sure i would keep gaining. It was like i had deprived myself for a year and then when i stopped that diet and just thought i would add back fruit i gradually added more and more and have caught myself binging on carbs! I am currently starting the IR diet. But i would also suggest the diet and exercise board. Good Luck to you in your weight loss.

I agree with the not dieting. Its the only way I've really lost weight. I just try to make the best choices I can and only eat when I am hungry. Also, I know that this has been said a million times, but slow down when you eat. Besides eating less I've gotten to know my about the daily life of my family. From what I've read on the boards it seems like different people have success with different plans. Don't give up! And try not to set unhealthy goals for yourself

hi Tori! its best to have small frequent diets, my RE told me to go to a nutritionist and they recommended a high protein low carb diet, with 3 meals and 2 snacks a day. i have lost some weight following this diet plus exercise and metformin
