What is the difference between the glucophage and the glucophage xr? And why does one work better then the other? Also, does the generic work just as well? I have my perscription and can't read my dr's writing lol...I am also afraid to start taking it..I had good results when I took it a year and a half ago, I am just afraid of the side effects...which I didn't have the first time...I am hoping it will be all the same this time...Thanks!!

XR stands for eXtended Release...meaning you take your full dose once and it lasts all day. Some women prefer one over the other for various reasons, but they essentially do the same thing...control insulin and regulate hormones.
