I just picked up the issues of Marie Claire that is on news stands now (with Cameron Diaz on the cover) and towards the back of the magazine, there is an article about Premature Ovarian Failure. Has anyone ever heard of these, and if so, what is the difference between it and PCOS?
Thanks,
Kim |

I found this website with great information: http://www.pofsupport.org/information/index.htm
Here is a link to their FAQ document (you will need adobe reader): http://www.pofsupport.org/information/faq/FAQ2004.pdf
It sounds similar to PCOS, although they don't talk about cysts, or being overweight, or the excess hair. Those with POF also have a higher risk of heart disease and osteoperosis.
Here is a link to another site that mentions both POF and PCOS: http://adam.about.com/reports/000101_2.htm

As for differences, there are not too many. I am glad to see a name for the condition though. I just wish more doctors knew the info.
I had endo that attacked my right tube and ovary.
When it shut down the ovary, all heck broke loose with my hormones and sent me into a whirl wind of health problems.
Check out the links at the top of this page...specifically my chicken and egg therory for PCOS.Another one is the tubal ligation syndrome. It touches on the subject from another view.
That should give some insight to the topic.
