What difference have you noticed since taking met.
I was just diagnoised with pcos on 10-1-04. I felt i had this for a few years. I have been bleeding for 3 months and new something was wrong... The dr. said it was probably because I didnt ovulate. Just wondering if you have noticed a change in anything since starting met...Like weight loss, regular periods, less anxiety/depression, pregnancy, ovulating? Thanks for all the help. :o
Hello
I have been taking met since Aug 20, so I guess about a month and a half. Met has done wonders for me! Before starting to take it I hadn't had a AF since March and without ovulation at that. Went off BCP last september and started getting acne, hard to lose weight and 3 periods (last one being in march), as well as decrease in breast size(due to increase testosterone). Anyways since Aug 20 have been charting BBT and I ovulated 25 days after starting it and got my AF 40 days after. As well I have lost a few pounds without exercising at all. Before Met I was exercising daily running and I could not lose, so met helped. Most of all those, Met has balanced my hormones and my skin has been clear for a month. Met is so worth the gastro side effects in the beginning! Hope this helps! Sarah

Whew... you can start to feel a little out of place when you read all these posts. I'm glad that I found someone who is at the same place that i am at. I look forward to seeing posts from you in the future. I am not on Met yet, but probably will start in 3 weeks. Just had my blood tests done. Been trying to have a baby for almost 2 years. I do have other children but did not know the reason it was so hard to TTC until just recently. For my last baby, the Doc just told me that I needed to go on Clomid. Didn't even explain PCOS. I finally went in week with a new Dr and he confirmed 10 out 16 symptoms...
I havent yet started met. either but will on friday I cant wait and i hope it will help with my depression and anxiety because lately it is so bad i hate to even leave my house not to say pcos causes this but i think it does according to research i have done... I had every symptom. Thank you for your input !!
I was diagnosed in 2001 in Ohio but didn't find a doctor here in Florida until 2003. I started Glucophage in September 03 and stopped taking it in December 03. Unfortunately, I only lost about 5 lbs in the begining and after that I was so sick all the time I couldn't continue on it. Is Met the same thing as Glucophage? I'd really like to try something different. I was so frustrated with getting sick every time I went somewhere (out to dinner, on a car trip) and it was very embarrasing. But there are so many success stories!! Let me know how Met works, and if it's different, I may try it too!!
I'm new to this forum but I have been on met since Feb 04. I have lost 69 lbs so far and I finally had AF on my own in July! At first I was really sick with diarrhea and horrible stomach cramps but it did get better until they upped my dosage each time.
I was finally put on 2000mgs in May, so I'm sure that was what caused me to finally AF. One thing that I have learned with research on the net and my own experiences is that even though they will tell you to take met with food it always made my stomach upset. I found somewhere on the net (sorry I can't remember where) that if you'll take the met either 1/2 to an hour before or after eating, it will stop the bad stomach upset. Also it will help the met dissolve better. Anyway I'm not sure if it's true or not but I've been doing a lot better with met since doing this. Also I've noticed a HUGE difference in the embarassing body hair. I've also stopped having so much hair coming out in the shower and while brushing my hair. My acne isn't nearly as bad either. I'm not saying that met will do this for everyone but I have been doing great with it so far.
A little background info: When I was 16, I started having very irregular AFs and I even went for a year without any before being put on BCPs. I had gained a lot of weight all of a sudden especially in my middle. I had a hard time losing weight, too. I think that the BCPs just made my symptoms worse.
But one thing that I'm worried about is that I've only had 2 cycles on my own and they lasted 39 days each. Now on this one I'm on day 50 and still no AF. I've got a DR appt in about a week, so I'll know whats going on then. I hope that this info has maybe helped you out. Good Luck.

The biggest difference I noticed when I started the met...I WAS ME AGAIN! My personality was back! My whole ME was back.
I'm sure that makes no sense unless you've been there. The Metformin helped me get back parts of my personality that I thought I lost years ago.
I was diagnosed with thyroid disease a long time ago (not long enough ago) and I should have been diagnosed with PCOS when I was diagnosed with the thyroid issue. Well, the thyroid meds helped a little, but once the PCOS was truly addressed, I was me again. THEN I GOT PREGNANT...So, now I'm not me anymore...LOL
For some of us, met is a miracle drug. For others, they need to find something else.
Anyways...welcome here!
Big hugs!

I just started on Met Yesterday. I have had problems that caused me to wait to start it. Anyways I am hoping it helps me as well. I am 33 and have been trying for over 9 years to conceive. DH and I had pretty much given up but then I was Diagnosed woth PCOS and we decided that we would see where this leads. I plan on losing weight first and then TTC next year..Hopefully by summer I will have lost enough to ttc.

TTC since 1995! Send the baby dust my way PLEASE!!!
Met by itself was a pretty slow help. I started getting periods, but they were still really irregular and my bloodwork was still very high. I did notice that I lost that brain fog and I had so much more energy, and I slowly began to lose than PCOS round face.
Once I added a more moderate carb diet and regular cardio exercise it did amazing things for me. My second year on met I hit my goal weight, my periods started really regular, and my blood work is all normal now (testosterone, insulin, free androgen and cholesterol). Met combined with lifestyle changes was a slow but steady miracle for me.
Hope it helps.

I was on 1000 mg. of metformin when I got pregnant, but I also used clomid. The dose of clomid was 50 mg. I got pregnant on the first try with the clomid/metformin combo. I was on the metformin for about a cycle and half when I got pregnant.
Let me know if you have any other questions...
Big hugs!

I started met in January 03. I got pregnant in November 03 on 1500 mg. In between that time, with the met and careful diet and exercise, I lost 102 pounds. Since I began to ovulate, my periods got lighter and more regular, too.
Good luck!

five years ago, i was up to my highest weight ever of 250 lbs. on weight watchers, i managed to lose almost 100, but gained thirty of that back. my pcos symptoms didn't really get much better with the weight loss. i've suspected i've had pcos for a few years now... a fellow ww friend said i had "all the classic symptoms". however, the two doctors i've been to since didn't diagnose me as such.
i was unemployed for a while, and am finally back on health insurance again, and decided to give it another go. i took the first female gyno on my plan that could fit me in, and let me tell you... i completely lucked out! i walked in her door with a list of my symptoms, and she told me that since pcos diagnosis isn't black and white, that she planned on diagnosing me as such regardless of how my labs came back. i had a fasting glucose of 9.8 (too darn close to the danger zone, if you ask me... ), and i'm considering myself pre-diabetic (i have diabetes on both sides of my family. in fact, i'm now convinced that my maternal grandmother had it. she died from kidney failure on dialysis two years ago.). so basically, my symptoms were:
thinning hair on head
too much hair everywhere else
dark skin on neck and skin tags
dark skin on inner thighs
bad acne, mostly on chin
overweight, carrying it all in my middle
out of control sugar and carb cravings
inability to lose weight past a certain point
used to skip periods
never even a pregnancy scare during a five year relationship with unprotected sex
and last but not least...
a doctor who 13 years ago said i had too much testosterone in my system.
so why wouldn't anyone diagnose me?
my original gameplan was to get a referral to an an endo, but my gyno is so well versed in pcos, it's unbelieveable!
she's also younger, which i think is great when it comes to progressive treatment, and she's really up on current health topics.
(anyone in sc that needs a dr, let me know... i'd be more than happy to give you her name!)
so i started yasmin about two weeks ago, with no side effects whatsoever.
i'm optimistic about it. she says i should start having "easier" periods (mine are very painful), and see more uhm... "appropriate" hair growth in a few months.
i started the met about a week ago, and so far, so GREAT!
the first day was rought... i had loose bm's and threw up. after consulting with a friend on met, she gave me a few pointers (eat in the middle of meals, eat your carbs with proteins, etc.).
after i made those changes, i've had no problems whatsoever, except for occasional heartburn (so now i carry yasmin, met, a daily vitamin, b12 supps, and tums with me, lol.).
my sugar cravings are GONE! AMAZING!
and i've been tempted many times. we had candy everywhere at work last week (i work at a children's museum and they had four days of a halloween extravaganza), not to mention the four boxes of imported chocolate chip cookies that my dad sent me in the mail last week. i'm always raving about them, and had no room to carry them back to sc after a visit home to ny last week. i passed them out to friends. i didn't eat any.
and tonight i did something so unlike me...
we ate dinner out and i put down my fork less than halfway through my pasta!
i've lost 8 lbs, and i know it won't go on like this much longer, but it's inspiring and gave me a sense of optimism about this condition that i haven't had in a long time. it just proved to me that i really was ir, and it wasn't in my head.
what's this all mean?
1. more lose change (not used at vending machines)
2. better feelings of self worth from being better able to control my food intake
and lastly,
3. leftovers for lunch tomorrow!
i'm new here, but have been doing research on this site for months. just glad to finally join the ranks!
