Hey there ladies, First I want to say I think this site is awesome!
Ok, Does any one have any advise on the best way to remove your facial hair. I use a razor, but it is starting to irritate my face.. and then there's the 5o'clock shadow...ahhh... I am only 19 and have to be in public all day, b/c of my work. I also would like to know if any of you ladies have hair on your stomach. my whole stomach and abdomen is covered. what do I do about this? I also have hair around my areola. what do I do about that? I am so frustrated. I have been hairy since middle school. I guess one good thing is that it has helped me not be sexually active for almost two years. I am trying to hold out till I meet my hubby...
Oh, and just one more thing.. I weigh close to 350lbs, even though I don't act like physically or mentally, but I want to lose weight...so ay advise on that subject would help a lot.. Thanks sooooooo much!

As much as everyone says it, the best thing to do is to try to lose weight. Believe me, I know it's hard. I'm really struggling right now (I need to lose about 75 pounds) because we are TTC. As soon as you get health insurance, talk to your doctor about Metformin. When we weren't TTC, my excess hair really decreased using a combination of Ortho-Evra (birth control patch), Flutamide (anti-androgen), and Metformin. I would be on it now if I could. While you're waiting for insurance, definitely try low-carbing. I noticed a difference in my weight, my energy, and hair amounts probably within a month. It's not going to solve it overnight, but it will definitely help. Drink lots of water - that will help.
As far as dealing with the hair right now, that's my biggest problem. I hate it so much! If you're able to pluck I think that helps you not have so much of a five o'clock shadow. Maybe using Nair sometimes instead of shaving. Try some of the Jergens hair-minimizing lotion, or the Aveeno lotion. Can't hurt to try it, you're supposed to see results after 4-6 weeks, and it's good for moisturizing anyway.
The biggest, BIGGEST way to help ourselves is to eat better and exercise. I know you probably hear this all the time, so do I. It's like I know what I need to do, it's the "doing it" that's the problem.
Email me if you want to chat, maybe we could encourage each other. Fireflysa@aol.com

I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone in all the hair! I have hair in all the places you mentioned and it is very embarassing but I deal. I am married to a wonderful man who loves me hair and all.. lol! I am also shaving and I hate it but I have found that my hair is so course that a razor does the best job. I do like the sally hansen facial hair cream.. it seems to work but can irritate the skin some. If you ever need to talk just PM me.

Me too! I have always had a hard time to lose weight. I found, though that the low carbing does work; I went on the Suzanne Sommers diet (it's more balanced - you can have certain carbs, just the right ones) and I lost about 15 pounds. I learned, though, that as soon as I went off the diet, I started gaining weight again, so I've learned that if I really wanted to lose and keep the weight off it has to be a lifestyle and stay that way. So now I eat good throughout the week @ work (avoiding anything that's processed sugar etc..) and then on the weekend I cheat for one day / one meal) That usually keeps me sane. And then if I feel like chocoate or something sweet, I go and buy some diebetic chocolate (not as good, but it works for me.) or Dark Chocolate, since there is less refined sugar in that. Also, excercise is important; at least 3 times a week, even if it is just walking. I would suggest getting someone to go with you, my fiancee is supportive of me, which helps me to be more motivated, still have about 20 pounds to go though.

Try the Alternative Remedies thread for some advice on what to do until you can get officially diagnosed and on medication.
About dieting and exercising....MAKE SURE YOU CHECK WITH A DOCTOR FIRST. I've heard that a lot, but I found out the hard way that it's true.
As far as hair, if no one can see it, just leave it be. For the facial hair, you can try some of the hair removal cremes, but they've never worked for me. I use a battery-powered three-blade razor and Kiss My Face shave creme...works wonderfully! If the whole deal really bugs you, give some thought to laser removal.
Best of luck to you. You have a GREAT attitude about this! Keep smiling.

Hey girl! It's so nice to hear someone has the same problem as me. So here is my routine, I bleach the hair on my face (chin, under chin, sideburns and sometimes my cheeks oh and the mustache) shave the tummy and try to keep the areola hairs ...at least not as noticable. I pluck the hairs on my face that are don't quite get covered after the two rounds of bleaching I do. I totally understand your frustration. My DH is wonderful about it. He says it's not my fault and it doesn't bother him. He's a trooper. He has started walking with me. I found the best way to try to get the weight off is to find a track and walk. I have lost 15 lbs in three weeks and just stopped eating out. I didn't really realize how much we ate out until we made the effort to stop. Now I take sandwhiches to work with mustard not mayo. we just cut the little things outta our diets that were so fatty. It has helped so much. And I feel better since I started walking! PM me if ya need to talk!!

hey cyster,
big secret to day after day harsh face routines? warm water and exfoliation! before doing anything to your face make sure it is saturated in warm water for at least a minute... your skin needs to be prepared to withstand the procedure it is going to undertake. warm washing your face opens up pores and slightly lifts up imperfections naturally. once your face is "saturated" take a gentle exfoliant (like Freeman "Totally Juicy" 2in1 Limon
Cleanser) or make your own with fine white sugar (eg: berry sugar) and a favorite cream cleanser (eg: St. Ives, Ponds). exfoliating will slough away all the days build up of impurities and dead skin cells. this makes shaving alot less painful and you'll feel alot more smooth because of this. just remember to gently rinse off any excess residue so as to prevent pimples and ingrown hairs, follow up always with a super natural and quenching moisturizer with healing properties (eg: "herbacin" moisturizing cream, melkfett sauve (in the herbal section) to name a couple). i still tend to rely on "cow sauve", a lintment made by Watkins for farmers and their livestock for cracked hands and cracked udders. but it makes your skin so soft and glowing. primitive, maybe...but it works, and thats why my name is prairie girl. i hope these tricks are of help to you, remember to drink tons of water everyday!! that has a big impact on our skin too! God bless and good luck

It is so nice to know I amnot alone...I have hair everywhere you mentioned. When I was at my highest weight, 256 it was worse. The more weight I loose and the more active I am the better it gets. I can see a diference if I am also eating low carb, the hair comes in slower and finer. Also when I was on BCP it was not even comming in on my chin or breasts...just a hint with that one...I know that BCP has helped some people with this, but for me my goal is to get my androgen levels normal and then have lazer hair removal...can't wait!
