I was diagnosed 7 years ago, and I have never had any medications for the pcos. Accept for my migraines. I have had about 2/3 blood tests in the past 7 years, for which he never really stated the results to me. I'm not ttc. The problems that I have are: overweight, facial hair, insomnia, migraines, very tired all the time, irregular periods. These are the main things. I was just wondering if the doctor should be doing anything for the pcos. I am taking some vitamins to help some of the symptoms.
If anyone can help I would be very grateful. I wanted to know things like how often I should be having a blood test? My tutor at uni thinks I should have regular checks at the doctors, but she doesn't know alot about pcos. So how often should I see the doctor? How often so you guys go? and what for?
Some PCOS women go on meds to help prevent diabetes. You might want to ask your doc if you are insulin resistant and what you can do to prevent diabetes.

We can't do that here. We have to use the doctor that is located within the area that you live in. So I'm stuck with the one I've got. I'm pretty confident that he will do what I ask. Its just that I have to go and ask for specific things. I'm glad the other doctor that diagnosed me is my current GP. He told me that its nothing to worry about, and that I can't do anything about, and that a healthy diet and exercise is all that is need.
mine finally ordered more bloodwork and a sono only after I showed her my 3 positive tests.........and my test there had turned up negative.
Keep on 'em girl!

If you haven't been referred to an endocrinologist, I'd encourage you to get a referral. While diet and exercise are very important, there are some very helpful medications available, and it's worth making sure you're getting the best specialist treatment you can.

there is a list of all tests that should be run for pcos dx.. under the newbies start here section. i would print it out for him.... that would give you a place to start ..
as far as how often..well if your doc sucks.. you could go every month and not get anywhere..but if your doc runs the right tests and starts you on medications..often women go 6 weeks in the beginning to moniter and then 3 months,,then 6 months.
as long as you get a proper diagnosis..that is all that matters xo jenn

Up until now I didn't now if I should be on any meds, or if I needed any regular check ups. Thanks for the advice I'll see what I can do. I'll make an appointment on monday. I'll let you know what he said.

Well I've been to see the doctor today and he has agreed to do the blood tests that I found on that list. However, he said that having these blood is not a rountine thing, and only happens when and as it seems necessary. He said that there isn't a test to check for insulin resistance.
Well at least I'm having the blood tests as a start.
there is most certainly a test for insulin resistance..
its called an insulin test!!!!!!!!! plain and simple...
sigh i am so sorry this doc said that.
i am glad he will run blood work..but i want to assure you that there is a test.
maybe you can call him and ask him to test your insulin.

This is really confusing me now. Nobody seems to know about the insulin test. Just as I think I'm making some progress I hit another brick wall. Well at least I know that I have tried this time.
Doctors really are hard work.
uk drs seem verrrry far behind in pcos treatments... perhaps they name the insulin test something different in the uk?? but for sure for sure there is an insulin test..heck look at how many of us have had it done here!!
