i was diagnosed with PCOS and my gyno told me she thought i was probably IR, but not sure. she said she doesn't test for that so i'd need to see a regular dr. to find out. she did prescribe provera - which worked even though it took longer than it was supposed to. yay, my first period in over 1 year! she also prescribed a PNV.
so i guess i need to find a family doctor (just moved to the area) and tell him I was diagnosed with PCOS and need to find out if I'm IR or not? then if i am, he'll proceed with treatment of that, correct?
do i need to see an endocrinologist? i know a lot of people with it are. we are ttc.
can anyone point me in the right direction? thanks so much!
Hello and Welcome to SC!
I would strongly suggest that you cover all your bases.
That way you KNOW what treatment is best for you.......and I guess the first step would be to find the right Doctor.
You deserve to have the best treatment possible for your situation and I truly hope that you find your answers.
Good Luck!
Personally I see my family doc for my PCOS. He was the one who diagnosed me and treated me. I had seen an endo and a couple GYNs before my diagnosis, they told me to loose weight. This is just my personal experience, many of the cysters here see a GYN or endo and that works best for them. If you find a doc you like, who knows your PCOS well and is willing to work on the best treatment for you, that's the best doc to me.
There is a Find A Doctor forum here that you may want to visit, maybe a cyster in your area can recommend a good doc.
Hugs
Jenny

Ask your dr about metformin if you are IR. It helps some with weight loss, reg sugars and some to get preg. If TTC, clomid is the next option, then injectables, then IVF. It is a progression depending on what works for you.
I saw a reproductive endo for TTC. Metformin did not help me ovulate nor did Clomid. Injections/ IUI resulted in twins the first attempt. I have a hx of no periods and no ovulation ever on my own. I take provera to induce AF and then I took the injections to ovulate, and now am a twin mommy five years later. Don't waste too much time with things that don;t work, ie. many failed clomid cycles or waiting to long to conceive with metformin.
