For the past 6 or 7 months, I have been having irregular periods and gained approximately 30 pounds. I made an appointment for my GYN and she recommended that I get an ultrasound done. The ultrasound came back with cysts and she told me that I had PCOS, put me on YAZ, and sent me a brochure.
What do I do now? Is birth control enough or should I be taking other medication. I feel like she gave me a diagnosis, but didn't explain anything to me.
I hate gyno's that are like that... give you a DX and send you off without explanation.
It depends on if your symptoms are gone, or getting worse, or if you're wanting to have a baby now.
You might want to see an endo and get checked out for insulin resistance, diabetes and a few other tests just to be safe. A general doctor can also order these tests.
A lot of us are on metformin to help with irregular periods, and insulin resistance. You'd need other meds if they find you have other problems, but you'd need to be tested first. PCOS can lead to high blood pressure, cholesterol as well.

Thank you for your help. This website is helping me learn a lot more about what I have. I'm not trying to have kids right now, but it's heart breaking to know that I may have difficulties.
