Default "What to Do when the Doctor says it's PCOS"

Hi Ladies

Just thought I'd mention that the above book is now out. I pre-ordered it ages ago from Amazon and they just shipped it, and I should be getting it in the next few days. The details are :

What to Do When the Doctor Says It's PCOS: Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome: the Most Important Things You Need to Know
Milton Hammerly, Cheryl Kimball

I'll let you all know later in the week what it's like.

Take care,
Dani

Default My Own Personal Response to "What to Do..."

Well a woman SHOULD:

1. Make this site her homepage.
2. Lose weight if overweight/obese.
3. Eat healthy preferably organic food, particularly vegetables and fruit.
4. Read into supplements and alternative therapies which might improve PCOS symptoms.
5. Read as much background as possible on the physiology of the condition and latest studies. Then do some more.
6. Look into whether she is insulin resistant.
7. Insist on a good endocrinologist with a background and experience in PCOS.
8. Take medication religiously.

What I did when I was told I had PCOS:

1. Didn't take my metformin for 9/10 months after it being prescribed.
2. Ignored the requests that I lose weight, in fact to spite them all (vicious medical bods) I gained an extra 2.5 stone (see below).
3. Ate as much fat and sugar as I could manage without being sick.
4. Ummm, that was it. I registered on this site but didn't visit much (at all )

Now I feel far better because ignoring it isn't going to make the condition disappear and I owe it to myself to do something positive.
