Default What do you all eat?

Hi Everyone,

I am sorta new here. I was here four years ago but hadn't been officially diagnosed, so I wasn't on any kind of medication. Well, this time around I have been diagnosed and I am on my second day of Met with no side effects that I can tell. When I was here before, I was dieting and exercising following a moderate low carb diet, with lots of whole foods, like whole grains and leafy greans and good veggies and protein. However, now I am am taking Met and I am scared to death of eating anything with carbs (like bread or pasta)in it that might make me have s/e's. Last year when I was doing the Atkin's diet a lot of people that I chatted with on line would use a lot of low carb items like pancake mixes and stuff like that. I was wondering if many of you use these products and if so what have your results been. Have they been beneficial in your weight loss and have you had any Met side effects while on them?

Thanks,
Bunny

Hi Bunny (again!),

It's important to realize the difference between all carbs and good carbs. Yes, there are good carbs out there, and it's very important to make sure you aren't cutting all carbs out of your diet! Your muscles need the good carbs in order to sustain themselves, and by cutting out all carbs, you're doing more harm to yourself than not.

Usually focus on whole grains, and they should be stone-ground to avoid as much processing as possible. The more they are processed, the less work our body has to do, and the worse it is for us. The more our body has to do, the better for us. Your best bet is to talk to a dietician about how to go about eating the right amounts, and the right types.

I'm on Met XR and I've had no s/e so far. I had a lot with regular Met when I would eat salads.

I eat whole wheat flours and oats.
