Default What do you do when you burn yourself but are allergic to the cold argh!

So yeah---perhaps I am the only bizzare case of this allergic to the cold (but I know two others with it too)

anyway I burned myself tonight---not to bad---but it still is warm and painful to the touch like 5 hours later, i ran it under cool, but not cold water---I am worried if i break out the frozen veggies I will break out in hives over the burn and that wouldn't be fun----

when I broke my finger the doctor told me to not even bother with the ice cause the hives would make it just that more uncomfortable---

by the way any of you allergic to the cold---I didn't realize this is a real mediclal dillema, but it is and if you are you need to cary an epi-pen cause it can become anaphalactic---

you can tell by placing an ice cube on the underside of your arm for about 5 minutes once you remove it if a huge welt or itchy patch arives in five minutes see your dr!

I would just continue with the cool water, if that doesn't cause your allergy to flare up. It's actually not a good idea to put a cold pack on a burn anyway, so definitely skip the frozen veggies. Just keep running it under or soaking it in cool water until the burned area cools. Then you can use an OTC burn spray or burn cream to further soothe the skin. Just make sure it's an ointment actually meant for burns - other ointments can hold in any residual heat and make the burn worse.

HTH!

Thanks---yeah i slept on it and it is still radiating heat! lol it isn't that big, probably a quarter or so I pulled away fast when I realized that oh crap that is still hot!, but it is right on the area that hits my keyboard as i have a laptop-----I knew you shouldn't put butter on burns, but I thought that after the cool water you should put on a cloth and then some ice package---hmmm must go re-read basic first aid manual----i obviously need to update myself!

I am a clutz and I have burned myself many many times. My Dr. recomended a product called "Foile" burn cream or ointment. It is more of an ointment now that I think if it. It is corn oil based and will stain just about anything, but it realy helped me heal nicely. The worst one I have had was when I poured a cup of hot water on my belly while trying to make tea. Probably should have gone to the hospital for that one, but I don't care for Dr.'s so I used the Foile and it finally healed nicely. Hope this helps.
God bless you and yours
