I'm hoping and praying for a BFP soon, and I'm just wondering what happens when you go to your NHS GP to tell them you're pregnant?
Most of the posters over on the TTC board are American, and it seems they get all sorts of progesterone tests every other day, scans, nurses calling them etc.
Please tell me we don't just get a 'what not to eat during pregnancy' leaflet and an appointment with a grumpy midwife four months down the line?
ALSO - I'd consider myself high risk because I have a bicornuate uterus along with PCOS, and I'll probably need a cerclage as my cervix is congenitally really short. Will I be referred straight to a gynaecologist?
Thanks

When I got PG and went to my GP I got referred to my midwife for a booking appointment. No tests, calls or whatever. I had to wait a week or so to hear from my midwife, and then she referred me to the hospital for my first scan. I didn't know how far gone I was [must've been about 6weeks by the time I saw her] and didn't get my scan till I was 11 wks. Maybe if you are high risk you will get reffered - but being whatever risk wasnt discussed until I met the midwife. Hope tht helps and good luck and baby dust!

I had my daughter on the NHS last year and it was actually OK. I admit though its confusing with all the Americans on here as they are obstetrician led. Their Drs seem to do a lot more tests etc but I suppose they pay for it.
For me my GP got invloved early on as I was spotting at 5 weeks. He referred me to the early pregnancy unit at my local hospital where I was scanned. Meanwhile I booked in with the MW at 8 weeks for my initial bloods etc etc. I was signed off at the EPU at 12 weeks after my 3rd scan and was then midwife led. It was fine and seemed to work well. I didn't see a Dr until my daughter got into distress 12 hrs into labour. And luckily she was fine and dandy!
I would imagine if your cervical and uterine problems are in your notes then you may be on consultant led care as well. My SIL was as she has a risk of MC. The consultant at the hospital stayed involved til her daughter was born.
One thing I did notice was that the Drs in the states seemed to make more of the PCOS angle. My Dr over here was very much of the mind that if I had got PG then PCOS was no longer an issue whereas my consultant at my early scans did mention the increased misscarraige risk but no action was taken. Not sure what they could do anyway though.
Hope you get your BFP soon - lots of dust and glue to you. Being a Mummy is wonderful and whilst my labour wasn't that great it was still wonderful when my DD arrived safe and sound. Good luck x x
I am starting to get a little nervous, but i am also excited too!!!
I finish work this week, and then i start my mat leave
Yay good luck with it all Sarah-Jane. Make the most of your mat leave - its the last chance for peace I am sure your labour will be great and can't wait to hear your story.

Hey Neen4Ash
Just noticed in your siggy that Dylan is just 2 weeks old - woweee how cute! And I am very impressed you can get on the net - think my DD was about 3 weeks old before I got online . I know its tiring but try and remember it all as it flies by. My DD is one next week and I have no idea where that year went. Good luck with it all. X x x
Hello i am high risk and i have a obstertrian that i see when i go to the hospital and also a paedatrition aswell that sits in on the constultation (sorry for spelling) plus endless midwives and nurses that are also in the room, so i think if you are a high risk too you will be looked after very well at the hospital, plus i also see my own midwife at my local gp i think i must see just about everybody the nhs employees lol, i have just finished seeing the endocrinologist aswell for my thyroid disease, i was scanned quite a few times too to check that everything was going ok, its just a waiting game now and from what i have seen and heard im sure that when you get your bfp you will be well looked after, wishing you all the best
