Question What does heartburn feel like?

Does anyone know what heartburn feels like? I've gotten a couple of different explanations from co-workers, but I'm just confused. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

I had always assumed heartburn and indegestion were pretty much the same thing. So it kind of feels like you need to burp, but cant or when you do, it is really painful.

I'm terrible at trying to explain this

Hi Khenniger-

I've reciently had to add prescription-strength Zantac to my list of meds b/c of heartburn/indigestion. I actually realized, once starting the new med) that I've probably had reflux (the real term) for much of my life. It feels different for everyone, but sometimes it felt like a painful burn in my chest, or I could "feel" something "stuck"...other times just an uncomfortable pressure. Despite them being my favorite, I had to significantly decrease my consumption of Coffee and Diet Coke (not dt. coke in particular- all sodas) I think I CERTAINLY feel a difference now when I have any fizzy sodas...I figure, heck, they are bad for me anyway. I still "sneak" a coke every now and then- but certainly don't chug down a 20 oz-er or I get that old "feeling" back. You can always try taking Zantac (OTC) for a few days and cut down on the fizzys and coffees and see if it improves (my mom is a nurse and recommended this) BUT if it doesn't improve, you should see your dr. Better safe then sorry!
Good Luck!

When I was diagnosed with GERD, my main symptom was constant vomiting. That's how bad the heartburn was (YUCK). Just wanted to add that to the symptom list we've got going here.
