Question What does ovulation feel like?

Here's some background: I've lost 30lbs since the beginning of August. Two weeks ago I started having some really strange symptoms that could be attributed to PG (extreme fatigue, nausea, uterine cramping [which I NEVER have], etc). RE did a blood test which was BFN for PG and showed my progesterone levels at 0.2. He prescribed Provera which I have been unable to start b/c travel for work. Yesterday I experienced quite a bit of pain in the front of my lower right side. I'm sure it was my ovary. I've had twinges there before but never pain this intense (at times I would have to take a few breaths). It would come in waves, was particularly intense for about an hour, and then dissipated as the night wore on. Earlier this week I had a lot of very slipper mucus. I'm not taking anything else other than Met, a prenatal and Vit. D supplements (coupled with exercise, good nutrition and weight loss). Do you think this could have been a sign of ovulation? Is that what it feels like? The other fleeting thought I had was ectopic pregnancy. Would that show neg. on a blood test?

I feel silly asking this but I haven't cycled on my own since puberty. If I've ever ovulated on my own (much less AF on my own) I don't recall what it felt like.

Thoughts anyone?

From what I've heard and read, def sounds like it could have been ovulation, esp with what you described as slippery CM. No need to feel silly asking it! I don't know if I've ever O'd either! I'm hoping I do soon though, just finished 100mg of Clomid today.

Not all women feel when they ovulate. I read that since we have cysts on our ovaries it can make growing and releasing a follicle to be painful.
The pain you felt was most likely either the follicle growing or actual ovulation.
The 3 times I know I ovulated I felt all of them, but I also felt the follies growing.
The first time was like some one pinched my ovary kind of pain but only lasted an hour or so. Then I got a wonderful migraine (which includes nausea and fatigue) and all!
Since I went off BCP I have noticed that I get a migraine when/right before I O and a couple of days before/during AF for about 3 days!!! Yeah, this sucks. Kind of liked the no bleeding, no mood swings, no hormonal migraines. At least while not TTC. :-)

JenJen (sounds very close to my handle - funny!) I noticed that you were using FertilityFriend. Do you find that easy to use? Is it overwhelming to track? I've heard mixed stories that PCOS can give false signals so tracking can be difficult/misleading. I know how to do it b/c I took NFP classes for marriage preparation three years ago. I've thought of starting to track - what are your thoughts/experiences?

Good luck with your Clomid cycle!

Windrop - What you're saying would make a lot of sense. Several weeks before my PG symptoms started I had mild pain in the same side. Perhaps that was the follicle growing and yesterday was ovulation.

Does anyone know if the home fertility monitors work with PCOS? If I purchased one would it show me if what happened yesterday was ovulation or is it too late?

One more really embarassing question - Since I was hoping that yesterday was maybe me ovulating I told DH and we TTC last night (don't know any other way to say that). Should we try again tonight or wait until tomorrow. I've read that it should be every other day to allow the sperm concentrations to build.

Sorry if this is TMI!

Don't spend the money on a fertility monitor until you make sure that OPK work for you. They look for the same hormone; both detect the rise in LH. LH spikes and tells the ovary to release the egg 12-24 hours later(possibly 36 can't remember). The egg can live in your body for about 12 hours. You will only see a positive OPK usually only one day, some see more. HTH

Here are some website that explain the month long process.

Yes, FF is easy to use. You can add as much or as little detail as you want. But I do believe it falsely detected ovulation on my last cycle; I waited over 20 days past "ovulation" and AF didn't show. Even so I'll continue to use it just because of the patterns it shows. If it weren't for FF I wouldn't have realized that it seems that I have some sort of hormone surge, almost like I'm going to O but don't quite get there, every 4-5 weeks. I feel nauseous for about 5-6 days in a row cyclically. So anyway, yeah! You should try it...doesn't cost anything but a tiny bit of time!
