Default What dose of metformin got you your BFP?

I'm on 1000mg and feeling so nauseous that I don't think I'll be able to get up to the 1500mg my gyn wants me on.

I am on 1000mg Metformin and have been for a month now. I called my ob/gyn because I am on CD40 and no AF and I took a test last week and it was negative. She told me to go from 1000mg Metformin to 2000mg Metformin. I am a little scared to jump that high because I am not IR and I am a thin cyster (5'0 and 95Ibs). Should I just listen to my doctor or go up to 1500mg Metformin and see what happens??

I'm not sure about the dosages as well. I'm not IR either but obgyn wanted me on 1500 mg whereas my endo told me I could go down to 1000mg. I'm confused as well. I'm wondering how well the whole metformin works for someone who isn't IR.

1500 worked for me but it took SIX months to regulate my system so don't be discouraged if it doesn't seem to have changed things quickly. i went in for a 3 month check-up to see what the MET was doing and there was barely any difference. 3 months after that, i started ovulating.

I just got prescribed Metformin...haven't started taking it yet, but I get my period every 30 days, no idea if I'm ovulating or not, what about with the Metformin...how does the doctor tell if you are actually ovulating correctly during a cycle?

i temped to determine if i ovulated - you can learn how with the book "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" or by using the website fertilityfriend.com

if you decide you don't like temping, your dr can do a P4 test around CD21, but you may ovulate later than this which is why i preferred temping.

yeah, the temp chart can give you and your doc a lot of information, and it's so cheap and easy once you get in the habit. if you do ovulate later than day 14 or 15, the day 21 progesterone may not be that accurate, you would have to track your ovulation to try to get the progesterone about 7 dpo.

Red face Metformin Success

Hi all. This is my first post on Soul Cysters, but i have taken great comfort in reading all your posts - thank you xxx

A bit of background...
I am thin and was diagnosed with PCOS 9 months ago. After being on BCP for 8 years, i did not have AF for over a year. I also developed mild acne and my hair started thinning. After tests and scans i was diagnosed with PCOS and told by my doctor that i was likely to be IF due to the amount of cysts. He wanted to put me back on the BCP to help with the syptoms, but after some pressure referred me to another doctor.

This doctor put me on Metformin, starting on 500 then moving up to 1500mg. I was not tested for IR, but it has really worked wonders. Within 2 weeks AF and then a regular 28 day cycle since. The side effects can be a bit bad at first, but the benefits are worth it - stick with it!
Big hugs to you all xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Yes 1500 was the magic number for me. I was worried about moving up to 1500 because of the side effects, but it really wasn't that bad. Good luck to you all xxx

I took 1000 mg for years, first 2 months off of bcp bfn, went up to 1500 with soy bfp! 1500 for 3rd pg (no met with 2nd). We tried for 6 months this last time @1500, 2000 got the bfp... but I think other factors were preventing bfp in the months before. I'm not IR and I'm still on 1000 mg. Good luck!

I have not been on Met before but I have heard from others on IVF boards I frequent that 1500 is a typical dosage. (That is what I plan to request to be put on.)

I was on 1500 for my first, 2750 (!) for my second, 2000 for my third and I'm pregnant with number 4 and was prescribed 2000, but only on 1000 when I got pregnant. The first 3 times it took me 3-4 months exactly... whatever month I started met was the month I gave birth the following year. This last time I got pregnant the very first month on met. I was on varying dosages just because those were the doses of the day (whatever doctors thought was the best dose at the time). I stayed on it for my whole pregnancy (well I don't think I took the full 2750 dose with my second, but i did stay on met). I agree though that you should give it a good 6 months. Sometimes it works sooner, but not always.
