I'm currently taking ortho-tri-cyclen Lo and spironolactone, for excess hair. I have noticed a definite decrease since I started about 8 or 9 months ago, but I'm still not entirely satisfied. I have read that spironolactone is most effective above a certain dose, and right now I'm taking a very low dose- 1/2 of a 25mg pill twice a day. My doctor wanted to ease me onto it because I have low blood pressure already. I'm just curious- what dose do you take, or what dose have you found to be most effective? We are working on upping my dose...

I take 100mg of spiro daily, along with orth tri-cyclen and metformin. My blood pressure has always been in the high normal range, so I never had the concerns that you have with your blood pressure being low. Maybe your doc can up your dosage to 1 and 1/2 pills a day, something very small and gradual to make sure that your bp doesn't get too low.

I've been on Aldactone for one week exactly today. Up until today I was on 100mg 1 daily... after 3 days being on it I noticed immediate results. On the third day I woke up with considerably less stubble than I ever have before and I was estatic. I know you're not suppose to see results that quick, and I even called my doctor to discuss it. My doc and I both agree that because my testosterone levels and DHEAS levels are so off the charts that is reasonable to believe and infer from this result that the androgen and testosterone receptor blockers in the med hit the hair folicle and gave them a run for their money. Thus the quick results and response time. Today I start 200 mg per day so if i've seen this much improvement off 100 and so quickly, i'm sure that the higher dosage (and im hopeful) will rid me of the problem eventually. Good luck! It works, just give it time! :-D

I just started at 100 mg/day. no results yet as it's only been about 2 weeks.
I'm a slow weight-loser and must be a slow medication-give in-er too.

I was on 200 mg for about 2 years, but once I gained a few pounds back (the last 8 months or so), the RE says it was the spiro causing regular breakthrough bleeding. He's cut it down to 100 mg.
My blood pressure is a healthy low because of it. I went off it for about 3 weeks due to a surgery and an attempt to go 'natural', but noticed an increase in growth, which had all but disappeared thanks to spiro and laser. I won't go off it again, at least not until my weight is stable...
Good luck

I've been on 25 mgs twice a day and I noticed results within days, although not gone, the hair on my chin takes longer to grow in and is easier to tweeze.... I'm going to the endo on the 10th and he is going to bump me up so we shall see....

Was on 200mg of spiro about 20 years ago, then i found that it didnt lessen any new hair growth, but my hair was a lil lighter.. then i was taken off of it as it was making me bleed avery other week.. Was started on it again in 2001 50mg a day which did nothing, so in june i was upped to 100mg and still havent noticed any difference in lessening of new hair growth, infact i have found new growth where i didnt have any before... no doubt in december when i see the consultant again he will up the dose to 200mg... to be honest i have got used to my hair now and it doesnt bother me, so i might just tell him to take me off it, as i am on way too many tablets anyway...lol

I take back my previous statement. I looked on last years prescription bottles and it was 1 50mg tablet everyday. Now it's 1 50mg tablet twice daily, so you can say 'm on 100mg.
I actually found that a combo of the BC with the Spiro and Electrolysis does lessen the hair
