This is a stupid, stupid question - but that's how irregular I am that I don't even know this!
How do you keep track of your periods? Are you supposed to count 28 days between bleeding? So..... are you supposed to count 28 days after the FIRST day of the previous month's period, or from the LAST day?

You start counting on the first day of your period, which would be a regular flow. Normal? Whats normal? lol Some womens normal cycle can be 35 days. Generally there isnt a perfect 28 day cycle.

You start counting the day the AF arrives. So CD1 is the day AF arrives. CD14 is that day that ovulation is expected to occur, and CD28 is that day that AF is expected to arrive again, and that is when you start counting over again.
It is normal for these numbers to vary a bit for each person. For cycters, these numbers can be a way off.
I think my PCOS started during my first PG, or shortly after. Before my first DS, my cycles were about 30 days. After my DS was born, AF didn't arrive for over a year. When AF did arrive, my cycles were 40 days. I though my body had just changed, and this was "normal" for me. After TTC unsuccfully for 2 years, I realized that 40day cycles were not normal, and I probably wasn't ovulating. I was starting to suspect PCOS.
THEN...I took 1 diflucan pill, and had a day of lots of exercise and the VERY NEXT AF showed up on CD28. Had 3 28-day cycles and got the BFP. Sadly, had a m/c and D&C. And was Dx with PCOS.
Had 1 AF after the D&C, and started counting again. The next AF arrived on CD35. I started alternative Tx for PCOS, and the the VERY NEXT AF arrived on CD28. Had 3 28-day cycles and then got the BFP. Now have DS#2
After DS #2, I slacked off on the alternatives. In Jan this year, AF arrived on CD35. Whoops. Started the Alternatives again. Feb AF arrived on CD28. I have continued with the alternatives, and EVERY MONTH, AF has arrived on CD27-CD29, usually CD28. I am not TTC yet.
The point?
From my own experience, I have come to believe that any cycle that is longer than 31/32 days is not "regular", and ovulation will probably not occur without intervention.

I think a normal cycle also has to include the release of an egg. I think I saw mentioned before that having a cycle every 28 days, but not releasing an egg is not considered a normal cycle.
