Default What to expect??

I have still yet to be formerly diagnosed with PCOS though, I have almost all of the symptoms. My question is How many times do you have to go to the doctor (for treatment/follow-up whatever) in...lets say one year? Also, how much money do you think you have spent on treatments/meds/drs appts in one years time? I know it all probably depends..but I am kind of worried about this..I am 18 and don't have much financial support from my parents/family and I also have pretty crappy health insurance too....Anyways sorry for rambling any input is welcomed...Thanks

Jessica

Hey and welcome to soul cysters. Your doctor visit will truely depend on you and what you elect for.

i dont have health insurance right now so I spend nothing going to the doctor. When I did I went pretty frequently cause I was ttc. Also, What will depend is if your doctor prescribes any meds such as Met (aka glucophage). I had prescription insurance and it was 20 bucks a month I think other wise it may be around 80 or so.

You can also help yourself by watching your diet if you have IR or Diabetes. Regardles I would truely watch your carb intake.

Sorry this is not much help.

hugs and welcome
Dede

Default It depends

The doc visit should be covered. But make sure that you get a referral if you need one, or the evil insurance company will screw you over.

Lab work is what got expensive for me. Hopefully, your insurance should cover most of it. If not, let the doc know your situation, and s/he should be able to do the most important tests first.

Prescriptions are VERY expensive, so I hope you're covered there. If you're insulin resistant or diabetic, you NEED a prescription for Met or something like it. If you're not IR/diabetic, you could probably do what I did when my doc wouldn't give me a prescription - I take Alpha Lipoic Acid, which helps regulate metabolism (same thing Met does, but on a smaller level). I buy it at Walmart, and it's really cheap.

One thing that helped lower the cost of treatment: losing weight and switching to a healthier diet. I only eat healthy, whole-grain carbs. Nothing refined or artificial gets into my body. I exercise daily. I managed to lose 42 pounds this way, and I felt so great that I only needed to go to the doctor every six months (labs repeated yearly or as symptoms demanded).
