My Mood: Points: 1,758.32 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,758.32 | What to expect on Spironolactone? Hello everyone. I was just wondering if any of you had any luck with Spironolactone? I just started taking it 4 days ago (100mg). After struggling with PCOS for the last 4 years and not even realizing what the hell was going on with me I was finally relieved to put a name to what was happening to me. Anyway, I have lots of dark hairs coming in on my chin, upper lip, a few dark ones on my cheek, not to mention the not so happy "happy trail" area. Anyway, just wondering if any of you could share you're experiences with this medication. What has it helped with, and what has it not helped with? Any info would be appreciated! |

My endo said that it takes 9-12 months to get to maximum result with it. It did make my periods more irregular at first, but they soon settled down. Here is a link to the hair section of sc for you http://www.soulcysters.net/hair-loss-hair-growth/

My Mood: Points: 2,725.92 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,725.92 | I started Spiro in September of 2007. I was prescribed it for scalp hair loss (to which I now believe is actually a result of hypothyroid and low ferritin levels.) Haven't noticed any difference in body hair, which is a problem I've never had...
My periods used to be come at a ridiculous 21-24 days. But since Spiro, they come about every 30 days. Not sure how Spiro pushed it backed, but I ain't complainin'!

My Mood: Points: 1,758.32 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,758.32 | Thanks for responding! Have any of you noticed a change in mood, (anxiety irritability, depression?) Also, I'm having some muscle aches in my legs. Don't know what that's a result of but it didn't start until I started the spiro. |

My Mood: Points: 5,894.70 Bank: 1,250,200.34 Total Points: 1,256,095.04 | I loved Spiro. It really helped me with hair issues. My unwanted hair growth slowed a lot and I started growing some head hair back. I had a ton of baby hairs that drove me crazy although I was so happy to have them lol
My doctor said it can take awhile to see any results from Spiro. For me I started seeing the changes within a month or two. I was very pleased and partly sad when I had to stop taking it due to TTC. I was told it can cause birth defects, especially in boys.
The only side effects that bothered me was I peed a lot more than usual and was tired. Very tired. I would come home from work and want to crawl right into bed. It sucked, but it went away after my body got more used to the drug.
Are you having leg cramps? Or just muscle pain? I know that leg cramps can be caused by low potassium calcium and dehydration; but Spiro is also used to keep potassium levels up. I'm not sure if it can be caused by high potassium too?
**Just found this article that says diuretics (Spiro is one) can cause leg cramps http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/nig...cramps/AN00499

My Mood: Points: 1,758.32 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,758.32 | Thank you so much for all of your responses! I can't tell you what a relief it is for me to have found a place where I can go and talk to people who can relate to what I'm going through. As for the cramps, they seem to be in my upper thighs. Feels like I just did a ton of lunges or leg presses or something. I haven't had the energy to do anything active like that in the past few days so I'm guessing it's the spiro. |

i was a little bit down when i first went on spiro. But id just had a large hs (cyst) removed from under my arm through general surgery - so im not sure if it was that/ or the spiro.
