LDS Cyster! I belong to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and BOY has my faith helped me through this.
I came from a large family, I'm the oldest of ten, and have upwards of 100 cousins, aunts uncles, that's not even counting second cousins and great aunts etc. (all of whom I know) I always expected and wanted a large family myself. I found my good husband in college, got married, and three months later became pregnant with my daughter, Anna.
Unfortunately, my pregnancy triggered PCOS symptoms and after the delivery, my weight began to bloom. I was no longer having periods, I couldn't concieve, I was a frustrated mama, and my daughter was lonely. I never in a million years thought I'd be in the situation of raising an only child. We prayed and prayed and prayed for an answer.
I'd always felt impressed by a foster mother in our church growing up, she had hundreds of kids over the years, she'd take the hurt ones, the sad ones, the abused ones, and put smiles on their faces. I had a thought that if I ever got the chance that I'd be a foster mother too. Well, the Lord told me, here's your chance. Go do a good job.
So I did. My first placement came in May of 2002 and our whole family was ecstatic to finally be growing again. We got three of the sad ones, hurt ones and abused ones. Here, a year later, they've got smiles on their faces and so do we!
We will be adopting them into our family by early next year and couldn't be happier. We felt comforted, guided and directed every step of the way in our journey to do what the Lord had for us to do. We were all on the couch the other day telling the story of how our sons came and my daughter said, "He did it! We prayed and asked for brothers and He did it, He sent them! "
It's amazing to me what a hand the Lord has in our lives, guiding and directing us. All the time he seemed to be saying, "Don't worry, keep going, I've got a plan." Sure enough, he does.
