It is letrozole. My doctor prescribed it to me to help me ovulate because I was TTC. He said it is better than Clomid. I didn't get pregnant, but I only used it for 2 cycles.

I think the reason it is better is because it doesn't stay in your system like Clomid does so less side effects maybe. I definitely ovulated with femara. I have a really long cycle and usually ovulate late. My doctor told me it would make me ovulate sooner, but I don't know if it were a lot earlier in my cycle. I actually got pregnant in March, but lost it at 10 weeks.
Hopefully you will have better luck!

The other advantage of Femara is that it doesn't thin the uterine lining like Clomid does. That's why my doc started to prescribe it.
My first round of Femara I took 2.5 mg for five days (cycle days 3 - 5) and got two big follicles and a nice thick lining. Unfortunately, BFN! On my second round (this cycle) I was coming off a BCP I had never tried before after developing a cyst and had AF until Day 9 . I took Femara from days 3 - 7 again but it didn't work very well and they had to put me on injectables to save the cycle. They did manage to get three good follies out of it and I´m currently in the TWW...
I've had no side effects from Femara and I think it has great potential for women with PCOS. I would be willing to try it again because it is cheaper than injectables and I think it is safer as well. I've read a lot about it because there was a "scare" a few months back but my doctor insists that the medication is eliminated from the body rapidly and that the potential increase in birth defects only relates to pregnant women taking Femara-- not women who are using it to stimulate ovulation.
Keep me posted on how it goes!

Thanks Kimmy-ki for all the info.
I hope you get a bfp this time!!!
I've done many cycles of clomid and was thinking of trying something else. Sounds like Femara does a bettter job. I'll talk with my Dr about giving it a try.

I just finished my first cycle of Femara, 5mgs for CD3-7. I had no side effects, except for a heat flash. On Friday I go for an u/s to check for follies, that will be CD10.
I did three rounds of clomid...the last round was 150mg, I had three good follies but my lining was really thin. So we skipped the trigger shot and I took two months off.
I would definetely give Femara a try. I finally ovulated on my first month on it. I never did with Clomid and I always had horrible headaches and I was very moody. It didn't result in a BFP, but I finally ovulated so that is a big plus in my book. Good Luck with what you decide.
