I just dont get, I am so so close to throwing in the towel. I have been busting my chops dieting and going to the gym for years and in the last yr putting on weight. Ok fine. So i get told im IR and have PCOS.
Ok fine - Ive handled that, now what? Ok they say - take metformin.
Ok fine - I can do that. they say it will assist you with weight loss. I got sold, I got told it was this miracle drug that would make everything better. Well guess what, Ive been on it for 1 week and 2 days and ive put on weight!! my clothes a tighter and i cant even fit into my loose jeans anymore!! From the success stories and from what I have read, everyone lost weight in the first week. I put so much hope into this tablet. Im so over it. I cant do this anymore. I just cant.
Hang in there!
I have been in the exact same place as you, completely frustrating with all my hard work not showing the success! Its an uphill battle for those of us with PCOS but banded together we are so much stronger!
Keep in mind that everyone's bodys are different and react different to new medication, new food, and excercise. I have found that sometimes you need to wake your body up! When I get in diet mode I tend to eat the same things over and over and my body gets used to processing it and I stop loosing but when I throw something new into the mix it sort of wakes up my metabolism. Same thing at the gym if I do the same workout day after day I stop seeing sucess. So maybe you should try mixing it up a bit... and see if it helps!
As for the metformin you arent the only one that has gained on met, I would talk to your doc and see if maybe there is another medicine that is interacting or a med he could add that would work in conjunction with it.
Dont give up! this is just a bump in the road to success!

Don't give up hope yet! It usually takes metformin a few months to work and most people start with a low dose to get their bodies' used to the drug. What dose are you taking now? I believe a dose of 1000 mg or more is the most succesful. Also, keep in mind that metformin is not a "miracle diet drug", it is way to level the playing field for us cysters. A low carb diet also helps you get fast results with metformin. Hope that helps!
Sorry you're feeling down. I just want to let you know, from my experience, that I never lost weight on Met and it always makes me feel bloated--so even though I felt I gained weight, I didn't--it was just the Met making me bloated.
A week is hardly enough time to call it quits, though. Most doctors say to stay on it at least 6 months. And weight loss isn't its main purpose--it is to control your IR.

I know, the only way for me to control my IR is too lose weight.
Im on a low GI diet and have been for yonks. Ive also changed up my exercise routine now to interval training. Its so hard but I do it 4 times a week with resistance training too 3 days.
Im on 500mg right now. Going up to 750 next week.
i know im acting like a spoilt brat, I just need u guys to tell me to stop acting like a brat and grow up

Stop acting like a brat and grow up JK lol
I agree with the other ladies, you need to give it more than a week. It's not a miracle pill, not even a weigh loss pill but i'm sure it'll take care of your hormones and IR if you stick to it. It takes the body a little while sometimes to catch up, just don't give up
Best wishes!

Sorry hun for what your are facing now. It can be real frustrating when no reasons are presented for our situations. We are all with you.
I just finished my pack of Yasmin and waiting for AF. As soon as I get them I am to start this time with met along with new pack of Yasmin. It is scaring me already now .
First off what is interval training? I know about resistance training and I do that now. I've noticed that when I lift more often, I tend to lose more fat. I follow a Low GI diet which seems to really help as well.

Sara--word of warning...space out the time you take your Met and your BCP. At least for me, I used to take them all at once in the morning (just b/c I remembered taking pills better in the mornings) and it always made me sick, but once I spaced it out (met in evening, BCPs in morning) I was fine...

I didn't see any results for a couple of months until I had been bumped up to 1500mg. Try not to stress out, it's way to soon for that! Met may even be bringing on your AF! I know the week before my AF I gain 3 or 4 pounds, feel extremely bloated and my clothes are tight.

After 3 months of being on met I lost 10lb! I know it is not a lot but when you struggle just to lose 1 lb it can be very rewarding!
I also noticed a huge difference when I started weight lifting! Cardio was 2 days a week and toning 3! I did not lose weight but lost inches. I also got knocked up thanks to met!
Hang in there! The first couple of months on Met for me was the hardest but it does take time for your body to adjust! good luck!

Interval training is alternating high intensity cardio w/ low intensity cardio. For example, joggin on the treadmill at 6 mph for 2 min, then dropping down to 4 mph for 2 min and repeat. This type of workout is said to burn more calories.
Belini-Is your testosterone high? Are you on BCP's? The reason I ask is because I can not lose weight if I am not on bcp's. As soon as I come off of them my testosterone goes back up and I pack on the pounds. Doesnt matter if I am goign to the gym/dieting. You may look into that. Now some women cant lose weight while on them but I am the opposite.
^^ No im not on BCp. None suited me. I dont really need them. My endo just said to take met and lose weight. Well im not sure if my testerone is high but I do know the LSH and FSH ( sp??) were introverted so I did have PCOS.
I have been on met for 2 months and didn't start dieting until this month and I have lost 4 lbs. The low GI diet is really helping. I recommend getting a cook book or informational book. I have The PCOS Diet Cookbook from Nadir R Farid and Norene Gilletz and the Insulin Resistance Diet by Cheryle R Hart and Mary Kay Grossman. I just learned a lot about how food affect your PCOS, etc by reading these.
Hang in there. I went to the dr before being dx and then did a check up 3 months later and found I gained 10 lbs. I was devistated and frustrated. But the more you know, the more empowering it gets.
Also, I had major stomach problems while being on Met at first. I learned on one of these forums that Met takes up to 2 hours to take affect and 4 hours its at its peak. So, I take my pill (twice a day) when I think about eating/before cooking. I no longer have h/a or upset stomach. I don't know if that helped with losing some weight either, but it totally worked for me.
Hang in there!
