Red face what happens when you don't get your period??

this may be a dumb question but when you don't get your period what happens to the blood that is supposed to come out. i feel like i should know this or something and i asked some people and they laughed at first but no one knew either.

the blood is from your lining breaking down. if you don't get a period it means your lining didn't break down and it's still in your uterus. If you're pregnant that lining is very important.

That's my understanding anyway....

However that blood accumulating also increases your chances of endometrial cancer.

pp's are right on. the cancer thing is very scary. When I was younger, i would go 6-12 months w/no af. i loved not having it, especially in school. Now I know how important it is. if it looks like i'm not going to ovulate by cd 25-28, then i use NPC, and i'll start af after using it for about 7-9 days.

the weirdest thing i've noticed is when i use NPC to bring on af, my next cycle will be ovulatory...usually by cd 30.

For some people with major hormone disruptions, the lining may not build up at all. For others, the lining builds up. This is called hyperplasia, and as all the pp's said, puts you at an increased risk for cancer. The risk is at its highest with 'complex hyperplasia with atypia' which basically means that the lining is all jumbled up, AND the insides of each individual cell in the lining are ALSO jumbled up. Simple hyperplasia means everything is all nice organized, and doesn't carry a high risk.

You usually don't want to go more than a few months without AF because of the risk of the lining building. If you don't get AF on your own, you probably want to ask your doctor about Provera or something similar to help you get rid of all that's built up.

Well I went for my yearly, and told my Dr. I had gone 6 months without a period. She told me not to go that long again. She perscribed provera for me, but luckily i haven't needed it yet. But she said , per your question, that sometimes that lining does build up, and that may cause it to come out brown when you have you next one- due to building up for so long. sorry to be graphic-but that's what she said.
