Lightbulb What has helped my hair loss...

Because of PCOS I no longer have the beautiful hair I had once. However, a few months ago the hair I have now started to fall out at an increasing rate. After several frustrating doctor's visit I finally saw my Endocrinologist. He said oh, it is your PCOS...which is the worst answer ever....if they can't find out what is worng with you they just blame it on the PCOS.

Anyway, right before i left the office he said, you know what, lets check your vitamin D levels. A week later he called to let me know that my vitamin D levels were extremely low and that I should start taking 2,000 units of vitamind D a day. I have been on the vitamind D regimine for about 1 month now and I am SUPER DUPER happy to report that during my shower yesterday (in which I hadn't washed my hair for 3 days) i only saw about 10 hairs in the drain!!! I wanted to cry I was so thrilled....I even called my hubby over to check it out!

The hair brush was the same, no hair!!!

So, you may want to ask your Dr to check your vitamin D levels...it is working for me!

thank you for sharing it.
my gynodoc gave me months ago a Vit. D drops for helping my very very bad hairloss.
I never took it cause i heard, too much can cause hairloss.
You gave me hope, I think Im going to give Vit. D a change

I would say that you should have your doctor check out what your vitamin D levels are just in case. I know that 2,000 units a day is the dose for me only because it was low, a person within the normal range wouldn't be taking such a high dosage....so, maybe you should get the vitamin D levels checked before starting but it truly is working for me and I am thrilled!

I've been taking 1000 units of D a day for over a year and a half and I can say it definately hasn't helped me, but I still take it as I believe in general its just good for you. When I started taking a fish oil pill awhile back it slowed my loss dramatically, but I still go thru periods of higher shedding and my hair loss still continues, though somewhat slower. I think the loss I have is at a normal range now, but I get little regrowth.

Congrats Windytime! I hope I can find something that helps me soon.

I really miss how full my hair used to be . I can't believe I have a bald spot at 24. It all seems like a nightmare.

Can you just go and get some Vitamin D pills at wal-mart or something or do you need to get it checked by a doctor first?

up to 1000 units a day is safe and recommended by most doctors. I get mine online but you can get them anywhere.

Thanks for this information,

My doctor want me to take 4000mg of Vitamin D a day. I haven't started because it's another pill to take.

I remember reading somewhere that most people, unless they live in a really sunny climate, are Vitamin D deficient. I didn't realize it might be related to hair loss, though - or I just blamed it on PCOS entirely. I might give it a try...can't hurt. Thanks!

Thanks for sharing the info. I usually try massaging some warm hair oil onto my scalp with my hands so that the hair follicles are opened. I leave the oil for an hour or half before washing off with the usual shampoo/conditioner. You can see the results within 1-2 weeks. Very effective remedy. Also helps in relaxing :-)
