I use to get my period every 4-6 months, but the last to years I have gone an entire year without a period. The only thing that has made my period come is depo provera the first time and a progesterone shot the second time.
found out i had pcos about 2 years ago. started metformin a year ago, started to work, got my period, then it stopped again. i went to see my dr and she suggested i go back on the pill... which i disagreed with.
after struggling to lose weight with jenny craig i decided to look into some alternative therapies.
i tried kinesiology, very interesting. in the first session it came up that i was low in magnesium and iodine. reading up on magnesium, there's a strong link with low magnesium and pcos.
second session she pressed the pressure points for my ovaries which were on my calfs. it hurt so much! she held the points until the pain subsided. she also recommended i take tissue salts for cleansing.
so i was now taking, magnesium, 2x flax seed oil capsules, 1x milk thistle, 2x cleansing tissue salts in the morning and 3x metformins (i'm scared to stop taking met) at night and 2x tissue salts.
and three days later i got my period! yay, i'm so happy. i'm feeling so much more energetic and healthier too.
i just moved house, so have relied on junk food a lot, but i'm getting back in the habit of healthier food and limiting sugar and carbs. also need to start taking apple cider vinegar in the mornings too.
but all in all, i really recommend the kinesiologist, she really listened to me and was so happy in her recommendations. so simple, yet so effective.
thanks for reading my rant!
I really don't know what made it start becoming more regular, although it's still not 100% regular. I used to get it every 28 days, not a day early, not a day late. Then I'd start going 2 months without one and have an extremely painful one whenever it'd decide to come. The longest I ever went without one was roughly over 80 days. I finally went to the OBGYN and they ran blood tests, did an ultrasound and saw the cysts. They put me on birth control, which ruined me emotionally lol but regulated my period, but I stopped taking them. I was diagnosed with hypothyroid/Hashimoto's Thyroiditis and they put me on Synthroid. My endocrinologist suggested the South Beach Diet for me, which was amazing and worked for me (25lbs lost). I truly feel losing the weight and getting my thyroid under control helped me out a lot with regulating my periods. Like I said, it's not completely regular but as close as it has been since being dx'd.
Good luck!

I have never had a consistent periods. I was either 5-10 days late or 2-5 days early ever since I started my first period at the age of 11. The only thing that has kept my periods predictable and under control is birth control pills. I am currently taking YAZ and I haven't had any major issues with it. I have been on it for almost 3 years. That is the only thing that has worked for me.
last year i went to a new dr, hadnt went to one in years. I hadnt had a period in YEARS. like 4. anyway, i got testing done. my thyroid was messed up. she put me on synthroid and i have had a period every month like clock work. i think my body is starting to work normal now. and now im on metformin and still having monthly periods. The metformin helped me lose 22 lbs but i am stalled out at that weight. LOL
so i credit the periods to synthroid.
birth control is the only thing that regulate me otherwise I could go months without one. I am now doing acupucture and changing my diet to see if this will help
