Cool WHat have u been able to eat...

Without getting sick?
This is my 4th day on Met. The 1st 2 days were not bad just had no desire for food at all.
THe last 2 days have been HELL.
I have tried different types of food to see if that helps.
EVerything I have had except one breadstick made me SICK.
Now with the breadstick I did not feel well BUT I was not in the bathroom all night.
I tried eating just chicken thinking protein would be good. NOPE.
SO what have you found that you can eat with the least amount of side effects?
Today I am trying a Atkins advantage shake.. We shall see..
Also bought some imodium.
Anyway what have you found to be the best foods to eat with this. I need a list so i can go to the store! LOL
I am going to starve at this rate! LOL

How many mgs are you taking? The first week of taking it was rough for me, but you get used to it with time. Taking metamucil helped me, as well as eating fruits, veggies(not lettuce) and protein. Tums and imodium are a gift from God.

I am currently takin 1000 mg a day.
One thing I am wondering about is are carbs bad in general while taking this?
Like if I eat a bowl of oatmeal or a sandwich on whole wheat bread will I be more sick than say if I ate a plain grilled chicken breast and some broccoli?

Wow! That is pretty high for just starting out. I had to be really careful with fatty foods, apples, lettuce, & stuff with lots of carbs. I was low carbing & eating no sugar while I was on it. I found I had less problems when I took it at night before bed. Why not back it down to 500 mg & build up to 1000 mg?

What did you eat?
I may have to go down to 500 if it doesnt get better.
But i have the hardest time figuring out options.
I did manage to do ok with canned low sodium green beans.
But I need more cals than that for sure! LOL
I got really sick on fresh fruit the other day so I guess that is out.
The Atkkins shakes are still iffy. Made me a little sick but not nearly as bad as other stuff.
I dont want to be malnourished you know.
I did ok on 1 papa johns breadstick the other day and that is high carb so it seems to be no rhyme or reason...

I think your problem is the dosage and not the foods. Try backing it down to 500 mg. Let your body adjust to that and then up to 1000 mg. I stayed at 500 for 2 weeks & then increased. I stayed at 1000mg for 2 weeks. I adjusted like that all the way up to 2000mg a day with minimal issues.

I've been able to eat any kind of foods for now. I just upped the dosage to 1,000mg today with no s/e so far. The only thing my stomach does is rumble really bad, but no nasty GI s/e. Good luck!

If you do go down to 500, ask your pharmacist what to do. With some kinds of met (ER, I think? I'm not positive) it's not as simple as just cutting the pill in half. You'll have to get a prescription for 500mg.

Have you tried taking it at night? That helps some people.

Definitely take advantage of Immodium. You might try the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast) for a couple days to settle your stomach before building back up to a more normal diet.

I see people recommending the BRAT diet but thats almsot all carbs. And I though carbs were worse.
I take the regular kind so its 2 500 mg pills a day so going down to 500 is no big deal.
Today i truly feel like i am dying.. UGH
No diarrhea today but the nausea is beyond bad and my head is about to explode I swear.
And I feel like its 500 degrees in here..
I cant eat anything. the only things that sound slightly plausible are high carbs. Like bread, or crackers.
I am a little frustrated. I know its worth it but I dont know if I am this strong...

I have just started on 500 mg, and so far I do not have any side effects. I did read that if you cut down on carbs, maybe it would make u feel better.

Just an update since I last posted.
I went ahead and took my pill last night so still did 1000 mg yesterday.
I ended up eating a baked chicken breast before and some crackers after.
I did not get sick.
Today I have not yet taken my pill but already feel a bit nauseous. I am going to take it in a few minutes.
I must say I am a little confused about the carb thing though.
I seem so far to have done best when eating starchy carby stuff like breadsticks and crackers.
DOes that make any sense?

I am taking met 1000 mg a day. The first couple of days, I practically lived in the bathroom. No nausea though. I still have problems but not as bad, mainly a little after I eat. Im at a loss of what types of food to eat that doesn't hurt my stomach. I'm IR so the dr kinda gave me an idea of what to eat.
Breakfast- piece of toast with an egg
Snack- cheese cubes
Lunch- sandwich (bread, meat, and cheese)
Snack- cottage cheese with a piece of fruit
Dinner- meat, vegetable, and potatoes (but no corn AND potatoes, too many carbs)
Snack- something sweet if I wanted, but just a little.

Try doing 6 SMALL meals a day and see how your stomach responds. I think that's what's making mine a little better. Hope this helps and you start feeling better.
