Does anyone know what actually causes the bloated stomach, besides IR? Is it fat? Is it air?
I've lost 6 lbs. over the past 6 months (I know it's not much, but I came to a quick standstill)...My stomach seems flatter when I keep it sucked in, but I'm still as bloated as ever when I don't! What IS it?

Androgen: This hormone is responsible for sending your new weight directly to your middle section. In fact, weight gain during menopausal years is often known as "middle age spread" because of the rapid growth of the mid-section. Often, one of the first signs of menopause is an increase of androgen in your body, which causes you to gain weight around your abdominals instead of around your lower half.
I have been apple shapped for a long time. Grains do make me bloated though and keep the weight on more.
I wonder sometimes, but I still haven't completely overhauled my diet. I still eat whole grains and a fair amount of dairy. Grains do make me feel bloated if I eat too many, but I always attributed that to IR. Hmm...

Eva on this site cut out grains and she made her weight goal and does not have the bloating. I was much better before I began eating grains again. Milk causes problems with me, but I try to get my vit. D and fat from it. I am drinking less milk and taking 2 walmart brand gas pills each morning. That does help fight the bloat.
I have noticed that when I eat almost any kind of carb, I get EXTREMELY bloated and gassy -- with potatoes especially -- to the point of having sharp pains. I know when I dropped carbs, it took my body about 3 days to adjust (not to be TMI, but I had the poops on the 3rd day!). But after that, I felt great! A lot of the bloating and excess water went down. I occasionally allow myself a low GI carb, but only in a small amount and always with quality protein and fat.
