My Mood: Points: 2,755.13 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,755.13 | What the heck does this mean???? Well this is it, I have now been diagnosed with PCOS indefinitaly. I thought I would feel relieved to knwo what was causing all of my frustrations this year with being unable to concieve. However, in reality when they told me that I was positive for PCOS then I felt really depressed.
They said that the good news was that I was NOT Insuliln resistant chich seams odd to me being that every single article that I read says that PCOS directly is effected by insulin and many women have had success on metformine and glucophage (sp). I guess a part of me was hoping that I WAS resistant because I wanted to think that the Met. would help me since I have about 50lbs to lose (only ten if I aim for the 5%) and My DH and I were really hoping for a baby! What is the difference between Ins. Resistant and Non Ins R??? How do I handle this and what should I do to improve my chances of conception? I am working on weight loss and exersize and I am just hoping that I will concieve by September (That is my 1 year deadline) At that point it's clomid and discussing other options. I hope someone out there has an answer for me. I have googled Non-resistance and have not had much luck! Thank you Jen

Clomid helped me to ovulate - I got pregnant on met+clomid+trigger+IUI.
The good news about not being insulin resistant is that you don't have to worry so much about what you eat and about being predisposed to diabetes.

My Mood: Points: 8,932.45 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 8,932.45 | I never even had the test to determine if I'm insulin resistant or not. My OB/GYN dx'd me and was planning on putting me on clomid. I have an endocrinologist I see for thyroid issues so I faxed my bloodwork to her and she put me on met. From what I've read, met is beneficial to PCOS whether insulin resistant or not. So if you aren't happy with your regular doc, you may want to see an endocrinologist, PCOS is an endocrine disorder so they seem to be a bit more knowledgeable, at least in my experience.

My Mood: Points: 94,202.59 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 94,202.59 | My doctor wouldn't test for IR because he said the results are unreliable. I'm not overweight, but still only conceived after taking Met.
Even without Met, I'd advise you to eat as though you are IR. That alone, may improve things for you.

My Mood: Points: 2,755.13 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 2,755.13 | Well, So far in all fo my posts it seams pretty commmon for a doctor to put you on Met even if you are not IR. That makes me think it might be a good idea to see if I can get on it asap. I dont want to over do it, but i dont want to wait until I am on the clomid to get on the met. Twins is a cool idea but not neccessarily the easiest first birth! Aye! Anyways I really appreciate all of the support I have been receiving today. It is amazing how depressing the news can be even when you expect it.
