I have been having some problems below the belt so to speak - and I don't know has been causing them for sure, cause a few things have changed.
First off - I am on ortho Tricyclen Lo and have been for about 4 months (used to be on it for over a year last time I took it) and I have never had any breakthrough bleeding or spotting. I am also on spirolactone, which I heard may cause increased bleeding. Now I have also started an antibiotic for my acne - cephalexin. I also just started having sex - so I guess my question is if the bleeding is due to drug interactions and by BC isnt working like it used to or if it is because I have started having sex, (excuse my graphic language) and things are just getting stretched out down there. The blood is dark, and kind of a brownish color and can be clumpy. It is just so very annoying because the birth control has been regulating my periods which has been great, but this spotting and bleeding has been going on for over a week!
Also, I think I have a hemorrhoide - and I have never had this problem before. Does anyone have suggestions for treatment? How long do they generally last and can you have sex with a hemorrhoide?

I'm not sure about the bleeding. i know when i was on BC it regulated me like clockwork no matter if i was having sex or not. I would go see your GYN and tell her what the deal is. Maybe the DR can explain

If you're on antibiotics and BCPs you need to also be using some sort of back-up method, like a condom. Some antibiotics will make BCPs less effective, and I do know of someone who got pregnant while taking BCPs and antibiotics. (twins, none the less)

If you notice the spotting soon after having sex, you can probably attribute it to that. I think it could be the spiro, but I'm not sure. I think you might be best off asking your doctor....

Hi there,

I'm not sure when it comes to cause but bleeding due to sex "stretching" is like mentioned above right after and also it is not a lot. It is also a different looking blood...mixedwith other stuff...TMI sorry. I don't think it's the sex thing personally but I'm no doctor.
