Default What helped you with your acne?

Hello, I was just wondering what people use to help with their acne... medications, topical treatments, washes etc.? Right now I use Proactiv, and that really hasn't done anything. Some of the posts i've read women say they got their acne under control (gives me hope)...what worked for you? (Right now TTC so meds aren't an option, but still wondering what worked for you)
Thanks.

Wish I knew what to tell you, but I'm still trying to find the answer to that question myself. However, I'm glad you mentioned ProActiv because a family member was trying to talk me into trying it and I felt doubtful. I see I was right. I had tried a similar product called: AcneFree which has the same components as ProActiv and all it did was dry my face out; but made no change in my scarring or the cystic acne itself.

Well since you're TTC I guess my answer won't help you, but this is what is working for me:

Obagi's Nu-Derm system - it has an AHA paired with prescription-strength hydroquinone and Retin-A
salicylic acid peels once every 5-6 weeks.

Aldoctone...but if you are tcc to concieve it will cause birth defects. I lowers your testerone and clears up skin well! I haven't been on it for almost a year and I am now just really breaking out again. But I am TCC so I won't risk it. Retin-A is good too. I use the mild stuff but you can't take pg. I have heard that when pg, hormones are normal and acne clears up. That is what I am hoping for!

the proactive mask is good for shrinking big zits. I use that as a spot treatment. I used Proactive for years and it stopped working. I seem to break out more with it.

I used baking soda and water for mine combined with weekly lactic peels. Not only did it take care of my acne but it removed my dark marks from shaving and tweezing as well.

When I would break out in large acne bumps deep under my skin I would take the homeopathic remedy called Silicea and in days it would go away and stay away.

I have nothing but positive things to say about Neutrogena's Rapid Clear line, I buy it for my 2 youngs teens and it keeps their skin perfect!

What keeps old mom perfect (hee, I'm only 33!) is Spironolactone and Tazorac. I swear this combo has been a miracle for me. I now have nice skin that I occasionally get complimented on!

Indianagal,
I wanted you to expand on your regmine. Do you wash your face with baking soda and water? Where do you get your peels...at home or from a Derm?
Where do you get you silica? I looked it up online but where do you get it? Do you drink it or put it on your face.
Where in Indiana are you from? I live in Indy, broadripple area.

Thanks!
Heather

I stopped using Cover Girl foundation and my face cleared up. But I still get breaks out when AF visits.

Heather,

I grab a handful of baking soda and add water to it and then gently rub my face with it. It still stings even after all this time so there is no need to rub. I let it sit for about 1 minute or two then I rinse with cold water. I do this twice daily.

As for my peels I do them weekly and I buy lactic acid from thepersonalformulator.com and I dilute it myself. What I do is I have a glass pyrex bowl and I pour 2 teaspoons of lactic acid in it and then I pour 6 or 8 teaspoons of water in it. I swirl it around and I use a gauge to apply to my face and neck making sure it is even. This has worked wonders for me. When I had the dark marks I what I did to really get rid of them was while my face was wet, I would wet a qtip and put a little full strength lactic on a qtip and put it on the dark marks only for 10 seconds and then rinse with cold water. Since the face is wet and the qtip is as well it will not be full strength but still it will be stronger than the other mix. One bottle of lactic lasts months and it is really cheap. You should always do your lactic peels AFTER you have done your baking soda wash. Do not put any creams or lotions on your face for 2 hours afterwards because that can mess up the process.

The Silicea is what you want. There is a such thing as silica which is usually used for hair but that is the wrong one, get Silicea from a homeopathy shop. I started out at 200c then moved up to 1m. It has been improving my stretch marks as well since that is what they are used for as well. It is for expelling scar tissue out of the body and lumps so it has really been doing a number on me. I have a large cyst so that is why I am taking it in the first place but I noticed the cystic acne went away and stayed away so that is an added benefit too. You need to get silicea in tablet form if you can, but pellets are fine too. You can do a search on google for that but make sure it is silicea with an e.

You place the tablets under your tongue for absorbtion they are sublingual. You do this 3 times a day. Do not take it when you have a strong taste in your mouth and do not take it within an hour before or after eating anything.

I live in Highland, which is not too far from Merrillville

Ask me any other questions if you are unclear about anything

Indianagal,
Wow, you certainly have your regimine down! Can you expand on the gauge that you use to apply the peels to your face.
How did you learn how to do this?

I just use a regular sized gauge that you buy in the pack from Walmart or somewhere.

I learned about baking soda because I used to do tca peels some years ago and baking soda was used to neutralize it. So I know alot about bs and it's exfoliation qualites etc.

I learned everything through trial and error and through need and desire to get my skin together.
