I like to think of it this way. The judge of coarse can't come into your home to see what kind of person you are your back ground etc. So he sends someone to do so. They check out your living arrangements, home, back ground etc. I believe that the process is different in certain adoptions and states. I had one home study done after placement of my daughter, some people have them done "before" and "after" placement. Just depends....
It's something that I believe a lot of people dread and feel scared about during their adoption but it's nothing to be afraid of. I thought of it as the person doing the homestudy as being the eyes and ears for the judge and just relaxed and had a good time talking to her while she did ours.
