Default Is this what i have? Im 15 yrs old

Hi there, My name is jessica and I am 15 years old. My passion is animals and i LOVE my dog keely (Note the name..lol) I just thought id tell you a little about myself before stating out all my problems..lol

For the last year or so ive been having irregular periods. I went 8 months without having one and then when i did have on it was an icky brown color, which lasted about 5 days (normal for me)... I had blood tests done, my thyroid checked out fine. But im dont know if they cjecked for PCOS. My docter suggested putting me on "The pill" to keep me regular, But because my periods didnt come very often, She had to give me pills ( five pills in total, took 1 once a day) to induce it and then start taking my pills on sunday (I started on a sunday and started taking them that night like she told me to) well Ive been on my period now for 2 weeks and 2 days. And its pretty heavy flow and im still having the period pains in my belly, and i do not see it slacking off anytime soon. Is this normal. I really hate going to the docter so i thought i would check with you guys first. So if you have any advise/Info for me, pleeeease feel free to add ANYTHING. BUt please tont rag on me for not going to the Docter sooner

Jessica - I would call your doctor about your 2 week period or have your parents call. I had similar issues when I was your age and could not get a dr to listen. So I wish you luck.

Hey, your doctor should know what is wrong with you - and therefor you should demand to be given information.

If your doctor doesn't know they shouldn't be putting you on the pill because he/she doesn't want to do anymore testing.

I would try to sit with your mum or dad or good friend and go through all the questions you have for the doctor then bring them in to the consult room for support so the doc doesn't railroad you.

If you do have pcos then you know you can do more than just being on the pill to help it!

Thank you.. Ive talked a bout it with my mom and she just assumed it was because ive went soo long without a period and its all been built up and needs a bit of extra time to leave my body. She also thought that pills my docter gave me to induce the period may have soemthing to do with it.. My docter is very rushy and tries to get you out of the room as soon as possible.. Should I be REALLY worried? I have a long history of cancer in my family on both sides. Would i have some type of cancer? (Of course i hope its not but i realy want to rule out all possibilities! Im scared, i do not know whats happening to my body, and that is a very scary thing

You need to call your family doctor and ask him to refer you to a Pediatric Endocrinologist. Tell him how you've been bleeding, and that you've been reading about a condition called PCOS, and that birth control pills can make this condition worse (if this is what you have, there are a number of other conditions to be ruled out first). Tell him you feel you would be best treated by a Pediatric Endocrinologist from this point on.

Personally, if I were you, I'd finish the pill for the month and then stop it until you've met with a Pediatric Endocrinologist. You need to talk to your mother about this, and have her back you up at the doctor's office.

Pretty certain you wont have cancer :O). The bleeding almost certainly is due to a big buildup. But this doesn't mean you wont get depleted iron levels from all the blood loss.

Drs will rush, and sometimes you need extra support to make sure they take you seriously.

If it is PCOS its great you have caught it so young, you can really get it under control!!

Ugh i found out when i had PCOS when i was around your age.
They also put me on BCPs and years later i've got a 2 inch cyst endometriosis and possibly hyperthyriodism. Please get yourself a pelvic ultrasound and get checked out.Catching it early will do wonders!

Good luck!

Hey, there is loads of information on this site as to what you can expect. remember you want a firm diagnoses from your doctor before you make any decisions on what you have as there are other things it could be.

In laymens terms PCOS is a disorder that is similar in some ways to diabetes, in-so-far as that you should eat a balanced healthy diet and get lots of exercise.

PCOS causes some firm symptoms
Acne
Period irregularity (or lack of a period)
Hair growing in unwanted places
Fat buildup around the tummy area.

These are the MAIN things to look out for. I am only an expert in my pcos (everyone displays their symptoms differently) so again its best to start to get a handle on the big words so you know what your body is doing.

Don't be scared, its not a disease, its not something like cancer. It is simply a disorder that have arisen due to the growing consumption of plentiful food without much nutrition. When we used to eat an apple for afternoon tea now we have an apply pie with ice-cream.

This is your body and your life. You have the skills and ability to change this now rather than later when it becomes harder and your body is less willing to change.

Sorry if I sound like I am preaching, but I found out when I was 18 and there were no support groups really like this around. I wish I had done something about it then, but instead I let my body go south for ten years. But even after that amount of time you can still sort it out. Check out my profile pictures to see if you want.
