Default what kind of OTC thyroid med. is the best?

I think I am experiencing hypothroidism, I have had the blood test ,results were fine. I am constantly exhausted, my finger nails have huge pit lines across every one. My periods have stopped even being on 2000 Metformin( 4years) and Yasmin for 2 years. The doctor prescribed Provera for 10 days, it did not work, just caused cramping. Now he has prescribed Premarin for 10 days followed by 10 more days of Provera, I had to stop the premarin due to kidney pain, contant need to urinate, it also caused my uterus/cervix to become extremely sore. Not to mention the weight gain after just 15 days!
Help, what do I take for this ...over the counter please.

If you are indeed, hypothyroid, there is NO OTC drug that will help you. You NEED thyroid replacement meds.

Here's a good site with lots of info...http://www.thyroid-info.com/

I would get a copy of your blood tests. In the last 2 yrs they have changed the TSH level for Hypothryoid from 5.0 to 3.0. Unfortunately, even the largest lab Quest still uses the 5.0 level as NORMAL for this test. Many doctors are not prescribing thyroid drugs for women who are between that range. Its unfortunate. You have a right to have your test results and have no problem calling to ask to pick them up or have them sent to you. If they ask say you don't want your doctor or gyno to perform the same tests twice and you want to have them to show them. If you can get your test results and see your range on some of the tests you might indeed be Hypothyroid and deserve prescription drugs.
