Exclamation what meds are best for endo?

Okay, so Ive had about enough of being in pain. Between my endo and pcos and other health probs Ive got to figure something out. I'm not on any meds for the endo right now. Well I have metformin but it doesn't ever seem to help (i'm not taking it right now). I'm trying to figure out what meds would be best to discuss with my doctor. he just keeps saying lets try this lets try that...and nothing ever seems to help. I'm tired , crappy, bloated feeling and aggrivated...any advice? He wanted to put me on some hormone but said it would put me in a temporary pre-menopause...which i'd rather it not, because then i'd have to be on other hormones to contradict that. HELP!

To treat Endometriosis, you have get rid of the endometrium growths or have strict control over your periods. Some women with Endometriosis only feel pain around their period and others have pain ALL the time no matter when their period is happning.

The *best* way to get rid of pain from Endometriosis is to just get rid of the Endometrioum growths via Lap surgery. Afterwards you are put on BCP to keep the Endometrium from returning. You must understand that the Endometrium growth is caused by hormones.

Other women find help with BCP's b/c it controls their periods (makes them shorter), so their pain is not as consistent or as long. When you have a period - your uterus sheds the endometrium cells (lining). Those Endometrium growing outside the uterus (Endometriosis definition) also bleed - which casues pain and scarring. This can also cause damage to parts.

The Menopause you are talking about is a GnRH agonist drug called Lupron Depot. It does put you in a "menopause" to rid your body of all hormones to shrink and destroy those Endometriosis growths. Using hormones with Lupron would defeat the purpose.

You have to look at your pain level, what you are willing to try, and how much you want to pay as each therapy has different costs. This information is only from me, so I would suggest checking out the Endometriosis Association and collecting as much information as possible. Knowledge is the best medicine sometimes.

As for me I've done BCP's, surgery, and Lupron.

Good luck

Thanks for the info. I have had the laproscopy thing done to remove the endo but thats been a couple years. I got pregnant right afterwards lol. My tubes were blocked and part was growing attached to something from my stomach. Terrible pain afterwards. But the pain went away and the cramping was much better.

Now I'm in a situation where, I don't have childcare to get another procedure done. Money isn't the issue, I have awesome insurance. I'm just trying to find a way thru meds. my doctor had me on metformin, but on top of the stomach problems I alraedy have it just doesnt mesh well.

I just keep getting horrible sharp pains... I guess I just need to go back. I don't want to (mostly cuz i dont wanna get weighed LOL)

As far as a medicine to treat endometriosis, I unfortunately don't have any success stories in the ten years I've been dealing with the disease.

I think the medicine your doctor was referring to (that simulated menopause) is Lupron. Some women have luck with it, and others don't (I'm one of those that didn't). Like a previous poster mentioned, it's best to get the growths under control with surgical removal first, then manage your periods with a form of birth control. The only tecnnique that works for me is surgery, but I'm stage III and will probably be stage IV within two years, so aggressive therapy is necessary.

For pain relief, however, there are two drugs I highly recommend. For mild to moderate pain, I recommend Tramadol (Ultram). For severe pain, there's a form of Vicodin that has ibuprofin in it- it not only provides great pain relief, but also helps the inflammation issues associated with endo.

Now that I am seeing a naturopath for my Endo/PCOS, I would like to throw that up there as an option. I cant give you recommendations for treatement, because a naturopath will listen to your body as a whole, and try to right it. PCOS and Endo are both results of wacky horomones---but what is causing those horomones to go outta wack? Whats making it do it for me and for you may be different, so you'd have to speak to a professional. But for me, I've only been going for a month, and I already see a difference, and feel great. Its definantly a start

And I have done the BCPs and the LAP....both of which didnt work out too well. My body didnt function properly on BCP and was giving me random AFs all over the place, and the LAP, well, they couldnt remove half of them because they were latched on to my urethra... So, I headed down the natural path
