Default What a mess!

Ok, so I went off the pill (Diane 35) back in May b/c my husband and I have been ttc. My endo ran a bio testosterone (ttb) test about 1 month after I was off the pill and I was super pleased that my levels were very low, actually below normal. My skin wasn't looking too bad at the time and I was shedding a little hair but nothing out of the ordinary.

Well come August, I notice that my hair has been falling out a lot more, I'm getting peach fuzz on my jaw and my skin is LOADED with acne (I mean a new pimple every day!). I feel like a teenager with raging hormones! My skin and hair have gotten so oily, it's unbelievable!

Problem is, the testosterone test gave no indication that this was coming. It started up about a month and a half after I had that test. Is it possible that suddenly my testosterone jumped up? Are there any other hormone tests I should ask him to run? Could my estrogen be low? I'm just trying to figure out how to approach my endo with this.

You're probably experiencing the effects of coming off the pill. When you were on the pill your body would have detected the estrogen coming from the pill and shut down your own natural production of estrogen. When you came off the pill, your body wouldn't necessarily restart production of natural estrogen or might be very slow so to do. That means that even with normal levels of testosterone, if there's no estrogen to oppose it your hormone balance has become much like that of a teenage boy, hence the oily skin, the acne and the beard growth starting on your jaw-line and so on. It's a tricky situation, waiting in the hope that your natural estrogen production will ramp up again. And it's one reason I'm not too keen to try to interfere with my hormone balance, even though I reckon it's much more testosterone-dominated than yours seems to be.

Thanks for that good info! I've actually been using a Clear Blue Fertility Monitor for ttc so I've had enough estrogen to trigger high fertility days on that.... but, I'm wondering if my estrogen is high enough to counteract the acne/hair issues now. I'm going to call my physicians assistant and ask for a estrogen and testosterone test I think.

Sigh... I finally got in touch with my docs office after two days of phone tag. They are going to run another testosterone test for my next blood work. Seems he didn't want to test the estrogen which is unfortunate, they are difficult sometimes.
