Question What mg of Met works best?

Hey,
I was curious as to what strength mg of metformin,(glucophage) is the best to induse ovulation in someone who rarely, rarely ovulates...
I have only got up to 2000 mg, but I was also on the pill, and not having any s-e-x at the time.:o
I see the doctor on the 29th of this month, and I want to explain to him that I need it for the IR,etc, and that I want a dose thats strong enough to have me ovulate....

Thanks

It really depends on the woman..kind of an individual thing. Some ladies have hormones that can be swayed by a low dose, others need a larger dose. The thing that can make dosing met tough is that it is unlike other meds that are based on weight...this is based solely on how your hormones move.

The minimum effective dose that medical literature usually indicates is 1500 mg, so many Dr's start there (There is several articles supporting this in the FAQ thread at the top of the metformin page if you want to print them up to show your Dr.). After several months ont hat dose if the labs haven't budged, they generally consider an increase to the maximum which is ~2550 per day.

Hope it helps and good luck at your appointment!
