Hey ladies! I just wanted to post this because hair loss and thinning is clearly something that a lot of us here are battling with...BIG TIME, and very few of us seem to have found a solution.
When i met with my awesome dr last month, she explained to me that the hair that is falling out today has nothing to do with what I ate yesterday, or what I washed it with three weeks ago, but that hair is programmed in 4-6 month cycles...meaning that the hair that falls out today was programmed to do that back in January or February.(and once that happens, nothing I do will change it.) So she explained that one of the best ways to combat hair loss is to take careful notes about what herbs, drugs, shampoos, etcs we use and see what results they produce in 4-6 months time. Obviously tough because we want it to stop today, but definitely worth noting.
But the biggest thing that she told me was that, as unbelievably difficult as it is, we really really need to stop stressing about it! She said that the sheer stress that we put on our adrenal glands and the resulting testosterone and cortisone that our bodies produce makes our hair loss significantly worse!
the last thing is that I keep reading amazing things about nizoral. (i am really going to buy stock in the company because i am promoting it like crazy on this board) I have read that nizoral was responsible for a 10% increase in the thickness of hair and 15% reduction in fallout just in 6 months of use, 2 times a week.
Thanks for the information - I'll have to look for that.

I am starting over. I have been working on my PCOS since 2002 - but never tried to take care of me for me (I was always focused on trying to have a baby). I have given up that dream and am focusing on me now.
Actually I use Nizoral as well and I have been for a while. It works really well and for about a year and a half my hair got really thick. I definitely recommend it. I have naturally curly hair so my hair tends to get really dry easily so Nizoral dries it out so I use a moisturizing conditioner and that helps.

I tried Nioxin and it made my scalp break out. I have become SO SENSITIVE to shampoo that it is rediculous. I finally found a shampoo at the natural food store that contains no Sodium Laureth Sulfate and my head is not bumpy. Does this shampoo have Sodium Laureth/Lauryl Sulfate in it?

could i suggest making your own shampoo? some people have serious skin allergies to SLS ( like you) and have skin and scalp issues and don't even realize it's the soap and shampoo they're using. and did you know that SLS started its life out as a floor cleaner and engine degreaser. i'm so serious.
if you're interested, i could tell you how i make my shampoo (100% natural)...it's cheap, easy and so gentle you could use it on a baby.

My dr. told me the same thing about the four month cycle.
