Default What razor do you use?

Hi, I posted a message before about facial hair and shaving but I am having a problem posting messages again on that account, despite it being activated.

Anyways, I remember joy black mentioning phillips norelco.... was wondering which exact model you are using? I bought one and am having bad results. Granted it was a cheaper model... I was nervous about investing in a high amount and getting bad results...

Thanks!

With Philips Norelco razors -- and here i'm talking about the men's type with the rotary heads -- , the numbers can be very misleading and are constantly changing. Some model numbers are produced for particular retailers, production of some older models has been moved to China and so on. The ones near the top end of the range are better than the cheaper ones, in my experience, but the most important thing is getting the technique right. In my experience the skin needs to be clean and totally, absolutely, dry, the moustache and beard growth as short as possible -- use the trimmer first if necessary -- and the razor head moved very slowly across the hair and back, stretching the skin ahead of the razor head so that the skin is taut. And the razor heads need to be cleaned frequently with a brush to get them really clean. Don't get the cutters mixed up -- each belongs in its own head.

Which model is it that you actually have? Neither of the ones I have at the moment are current models.

Thank you for the tips. The product says to give it a few weeks.. Im new to this, my face is used to razor blades, which have been horrible for me. But this electric one doesnt seem to remove anything and its really irritating. Im pretty careful with it too..
The one I am using is 7310 (7300 series) cost was $38. Its this one:

http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...ct_id=10250228

It had some decent reviews, but some negatives too. Maybe I should invest in one around $100?

Oh wow, I was thinking about getting one of these today! They're on sale at Walgreens and so I thought might be a good chance to try one out.

Kitten1, are you going to try to use it again? Now I'm wondering about putting off getting it. Thanks for posting about it!

Without a doubt. I am SO tired of the razor blade, all it ever does is rips and cuts, regardless of what brand I buy. Its actually worse than the facial hair itself. Im just waiting on a response from joy. Im thinking the reason I am getting poor results is:

My face isnt used to the electric yet.
Im using a cheap model.

I hope the electric razor works out. I am desperate, I need it to! lol

Thanks for the reply! Do you think you'll try the 7310 again or go ahead and get another model?

I'll probably continue with this one for another week or two and see what happens. If I'm still unhappy I think I'm going to return it for a more expensive one. I'm just not sure which one to pick.

The booklet recommends that you give the product 3 weeks, especially if you are switching from a razor blade. I guess your face needs time to adjust to something different. Makes sense to me. And it comes with a 45 day money back gaurantee. Walmarts also really good with returns, one of the reasons I picked it up there.

Thanks for the info! I went ahead and got one myself.

Hope you end up liking yours. This is my first electric, too! I'm crossing my fingers!!

Also, thanks joyblack for your info and tips - I've also seen your previous posts about Norelco and thought of those posts when deciding on getting an electric.

I've always bought at the top end of the range which goes up to about $200 at the moment, but that's a great deal of money if it doesn't work for you.

One of my sons has a model something like yours and it's certainly not the same quality -- his is made in China, whereas neither of mine is.

However, I think that before reaching the conclusion that you need a different model of razor I would give your skin and beard growth a chance to get used to it and really concentrate on getting the technique right. Getting the skin completely dry, without any trace of moisture whatsoever, stretching the skin ahead of the razor and moving it real slow over the skin are all important. Your skin also needs to be totally clean -- no trace of makeup of any sort. Best to wash your skin thoroughly at night and then shave in the morning.

When you say it doesn't remove anything, how long is the growth that's there when you start?

Is it soft or is it stubbly?

I just tried using it again, skin completely dry and clean (I dont wear makeup) and what is happening is it removes some in some areas, but in other areas it appears to be to short to cut I think. I am a very dark haired woman, so my stubbles are extemely dark too. I just shaved, nice in slow and it kind of looks like I haven't shaved in a few days or something. It's stubbbley when I start because my growth isn't real fast (Im not even taking anything to slow it down anymore) but, the next morning even after a shave with a blade, its pretty noticeable.

I was thinking that maybe using some cream in the day will help soften it up and maybe they will be easier to remove... or that electric shave stuff.

Its so frustrating xD I wish I was having the same results as you!

edit: good for you tres_chick! I wish you lots of luck.

I wish you could get as good results as I do, too.

I certainly wouldn't use any cream on it -- or anything to soften it -- in one sense, the more bristly the better, in that that it's more likely to enter one of the slots or holes in the razor head.

Are you pressing the head gently against the skin as you move the razor slowly across your skin? If you can feel the growth with your fingers, the razor should be easily able to cut it.
