Unhappy What is the right dosage?

Hello all. I am currently on 2000mg/day of met. Does anyone know how the doctors determine what the right mg/day is? I am actually going to the dr on 4/7 to talk to him about this. I just wanted to do some research before going.
Thanks for any help!

My question is, do you think that 2000mg is wrong? I don't think there is a right and a wrong dosage. It's what your body takes and what the doctor thinks is right for you. Like, I was on 2500mg per day, but I'm on 1700mg per day and so far that seems perfect.

At first I got sick on met. Now I have no problems with it. I'm kinda wondering if 2000mg/day is not enough. I don't feel any better, I haven't lost any weight, (even with diet change & going to the gym 3x week). I got AF 1x. So, I really don't know

How long has it been since you have been on the 2000mg dosage? If it has been a while and hasn't helped any I would ask two questions. Do we need to increase my dose? Is met what I need at all?

Are you IR? If you are not then I am not sure why your doc has you on met anyways. If there is no problem, then there is nothing for met to fix. Met may not be what your body needs. I am not sure but I hope that they get things straightened out for your sake. May God bless and good luck with the doctor.

I believe the dose is determined by your blood work. My doc put me on 250 1xdaily and I still havent got AF. I saw her on monday and did my blood work on tuesday.. I have an appt on next monday for the results. She did not want to increase my dose until she saw my blood results. Even thought my dose is really low, i already see that my hair is not falling out like it used to. GOod luck.

I'm only on 1500mg (since December '07), and I'm not sure if it's working for me yet either. But I think it takes a few months for any medication like that to get your system straight (atleast that's what I've been told). I've had AF once, but it may have just been my annual AF!

I don't think there's any "correct dose". As the others have said, I think it depends on your body and bloodwork. I've read women that are on 500mg/day, but I think the average is 1500mg.
