Okay ladies, here's the deal (lol) I noticed that when I don't eat I start shaking, sorta like a nevouseness, I sweat and sometimes I can't think straight and feel like I'm going to pass out. What is this? I use to be able to go hours without eating, now it's so weird. Please help.

Hi hun......

I think I know what is happening, because I have the same thing. It is something called hypoglycemia, and it occurs due to a low level of sugar in your body. I know exactly how you feel, and it is not a fun feeling. I have started spreading out my meals, and eating more smaller, lighter meals throughout the day. This really helped. I hope this helps you. ::Hugs::

That's good advice from Katrina; having a hypo is no fun and once you have regular small meals, you should be fine. It's weird the way our bodies will tolerate our lifestyle for so long, then just throw a hissyfit!

UGH, I know....I used to could go for days on just a few hours of sleep...now if I don't get at least 7hours a night.... :rant2:

Anywho, I think these lovely ladies are right. It sounds like your blood sugar is dropping. The smalls meals evenly spaced out should help alot.

Good luck hon
Hugs

I have the same problem, feels like I need to eat all the time. I used to go hours without eating (on the odd ocasion a day or 2) now I've startind fainting if I don't eat within an hour of feeling hungry. though the doctor didn't say anything about hypoglycemia, she actually didn't say anything about it at all, but it has me worried. (((hugs))) to you, I know how horrible it feels!

Um not to be a doubting Tomas but it may be IR. I have had the 'shakes' since I was a teenager but they never got bad till recentaly (been shake free for 3 weeks on met ) . My dr said it might be Low-blood sugar syndrome (a step below hypo) & put on a hypo diet... BIG mistake I gained a lot of weight. Ask your dr to do a insulin leval test on you and a glocose tolorance test (insist if you have too or even find a diff dr who will do it). the Insulin test will show how much insulin is free floating in your blood & the glucose tolorance will confirm if it is IR or hypo as they have different results. Good luck Cyster!!!

Thanks so much for the replies ladies!

I'm wondering, is Hypoglycemia linked to PCOS or is that you either have one or the other? Now I'm wondering if I'm PCOS at all?

What's your oppinion?

Yes, they are linked, and IR is related to hypoglycemia (I have heard some people say that they may be the same thing in some cases, not sure on that though.) Since IR *is* linked to PCOS, and hypoglycemia is linked to IR, then hypoglycemia can be related to PCOS. They are certainly not mutually exclusive disorders, so don't throw the baby out with the bathwater!

Question

Thanks BonnieBee! I thought as much. The problem I have is that I know I should be on a low carb diet or shall I say lifestyle, but I have a HUGE problem doing so.

First of all, how low is low? Also, other than chicken, I'm really not sure what to cook! Allot of times I have to grab something quick and with low carb, that aint happening LOL!

Maybe you ladies can shed some light???

My brother has low blood sugar/ hypoglycemia. He fainted when he was in the hospital once because he hadn't eaten earlier that morning. They had to give him this sugar drink and he was back to being normal again.

I know that hypoglycemia and diabetes/ir are related. I heard that it is like one of the last steps before full-fledged diabetes II. But i'm not sure, just what i heard.

You don't necessarily need to follow a low-carb diet, but additional protein and/or fat can help. I carry protein bars so when I feel a low blood sugar coming on, I can take care of it. Protein shakes are also easy to make. I do find that when I follow a lower carb diet, I have less problems with low blood sugar.

hmmm...sounds like I need to set up a Dr. appointment for this. Anyone know how they go about testing? Do you know if I will be put on any meds? Met makes me gain weight like mad, so I'm not going there LOL!

Okay, this is the test I was put through, the 5 hour glucose tolerance test. Some doctors use the 3-hour, but sometimes abnormalities don't show up until hour 4 or 5 so the 5 hour is more reliable.

Basically, you fast the night before the test. The day of the test, you show up and they draw blood. You have to drink this whole thing of pure glucose drink, and it's nasty. It made me a little nauseous, but you can't throw up because you will have to reschedule the test. They draw blood every hour for five hours to check your blood sugar. This whole time you cannot eat. Make sure you do not go to the hospital alone in case your blood sugar is very low at the end of the 5 hours. You want to have someone who can drive you home (particularly if you don't want to eat the hospital cafeteria food!). I won't lie to you, the test sucks. You get blood drawn a total of six times, you have to drink that nasty a$$ crap, and you can't eat so of course if you are truly hypoglycemic your sugar will CRASH before it's over. My blood sugar in hour four was 43. I felt like I was gonna pass out. BUT I cannot stress enough - PLEASE get tested! You want this diagnosed, no matter how bad the test is. You need to have it on record that you are hypoglycemic.

I suggest rewarding yourself after the test by going out to eat. You are going to be HUNGRY. We went to the Waffle House, and I ate a whole waffle, a salad, and a slice of pie and drank a whole Coke and was still hungry! Normally I can't even finish a whole waffle! LOL
