Points: 389.00 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 389.00 | what's wrong with me?? hello everyone,
so today was supposed to be the day that i see my ob-gyn (i made an appointment with her at 2:20), BUT, she cancelled on me last minute!! the secretary literally called me at 2:00 to tell me that i would have to reschedule because the doctor had something urgent come up (she wouldn't go into detail). that totally sucked because i was already on my way to the clinic, which is about a 20 minute drive. i hope her reasoning behind canceling my appointment was a good one, otherwise, that's really messed up. whatever the reason, i think i'm going to find a new doctor, just because i was extremely let down today.
the thing is, i don't even know if i have pcos...
the only symptoms i have are pigmented skin under my armpits, a few small skin tags here and there, and mild hirsutism (not nearly as thick as a man's would be, but still quite noticeable, which is the sucky part.) i also have really oily skin, but no acne. another thing is, i have trouble gaining weight as opposed to losing it! i'm stuck forever at around 85 pounds (i'm about 5 feet tall). another thing is my periods are always on the DOT, every single month. so honestly, do you think i have pcos? or do you think there might be a problem with my thyroid? could it be hyperthyroidism? or maybe i just have high levels of androgen, which would explain the unwanted hair situation. does anyone know what's wrong with me? the only thing i'm concerned about is my hirsutism. it can't run in the family because everyone in my family, including the guys are virtually hairLESS. is light hirsutism a symptom of hyperthyroidism?? ahhh!! i'm so confused!!! all i know is that i cry every day because i can't look at myself in the mirror. it hurts too much!! someone...anyone! please give me your input. thanks a bundle...

Maybe your doctor had an emergency delivery or something. Or a personal emergency, we're all humans. They really can't tell you to much because it may violate others confidentiality.
You don't have to have all symptoms of pcos to have the disease.
Perhaps you need to see an endocrinologist. They may be of more help then an obgyn.

I get a call saying I have to reshedual... they really suck don't they!! but you can't blame them, it could be anything from emergancy surgery to a personal emergancy. Hey for all you know they broke their leg!!!! it happens to drs too. how did your dr make your DX?? if it was from blood tests then you can ask for the values & if it was just from symptoms then you can ask for the tests to be done to make sure. Good luck in your next appointment
Welcome to Soulcysters!! I really hope you find what you need here

As for PCOS...well, we can't diagnose you....but it certainly sounds like you have something going on. I agree with the suggestion of an endocrinologist. Sounds like you need your hormones checked, thyroid probs eliminated, etc.
Good luck!

thanks for the replies. i know the doctor canceled on me because something urgent came up, but it still sucks! it sucks because today's appointment was supposed to be my first appointment EVER. i've never seen an endo or an ob-gyn in the past due to financial problems. now that i've finally saved up enough for an initial consultation, what happens?? my appointment gets canceled. sigh, what can you do, though? oh well, time for me to move on. i'm determined to find what the heck is wrong with me with a different doctor. |

As far as the docs I work for, it would have to be extreme for them to cancel their patients. As far as an ob/gyn that is the nature of the business. Unfortunately babies don't like to wait until the doc is through seeing office patients before they make their arrival. Their are also some other types of emergency cases or even personal/family business.
I am in no way trying to diminish your feelings. It is very frustrating when you schedule an appointment, you wait and wait, and finally the day arrives, only to be changed. Hopefully they will be able to get you rescheduled rapidly. However, if you feel you want to change docs, then do it. But realize this may happen again, anywhere you go.
The ob/gyns where I live are very aware of this. The local hospital has even created a new women's and children's hopsital. That is actually connected to the ob/gyn's and pediatricians offices. So if there is an emergency, then all they have to do is run down the hall. This allows their office staff to alert their patients and give them the opportunity to wait or reschedule. It also saves time for the emergency as far as doc response.
Keep your spirits up! |

Sometimes it takes us so long to save up money, get the nerve to go, finally decide to go, etc and then when you do it is canceled. I've had it happen to me too. Obgyns never know what kind of schedule they are going to have day to day. They have constant unexpected happy and miraculous interruptions daily. You can be thin and still have PCOS from studies I have read I think it said between 50 and 60 percent of PCOC patients are obese while the other are not. I couldn't imagine having to force myself to gain weight. I seem to step in the kitchen and I gain. Sorry I couldn't be helpful and I hope things go better next time you schedule an appointment. |

Its not your doctor's fault, so unless you're just really unhappy with your doctor in general, I say go back and try again. Depending on your doctor's speciality, a number of things could have happened. Emergent cases always come first.
I have literally been in agony in the ER before from a kidney stone and my doctor wasn't able to come see me for over an hour! And an hour with no drugs for a kidney stone is torture... Lemme tell ya. Come to find out, someone had died of a heart attack and my ER doctor was trying to save the patient's life. Unfortuantely he couldn't.
