I was shocked to *finally* have my insulin level tested after being DX with PCOS @ 15 years ago (I've had it longer than that, just not DX). My level was 247, with 10 and under being normal. Is anyone else's that high? No wonder I feel like c-r-a-p most of the time!
Here's what one website says about the symptoms of hyperinsulinemia:
What are the symptoms of hyperinsulinemia?
Symptoms of hyperinsulinemia include weight gain, cravings for sugar, intense hunger, weakness, need for frequent meals, poor concentration, emotional instability, memory loss, lack of focus, feelings of anxiety or panic, lack of motivation and fatigue. If, on the other hand, the condition leads to abnormally low blood sugar (hypoglycemia), symptoms may include sweating, weakness, slurred speech, confusion and seizures.
I was put on Byetta a month ago and just started the 10 mcg pen today. I've lost 5 pounds so far. I'm eating MUCH better and need to get on the treadmill.
Do those of you who are IR have great days and then others that you just feel totally exhausted, shaky, hungry?
I believe I have IR (but haven't gotten a real diagnosis from a dr. since my previous one blew me off and still hasn't sent my medical history to my new dr.), I definitely have up and down days! More down days than up lately, but that's PCOS for you...

My insulin level was 69, which was the highest my Dr had ever seen....With that kind of level its a wonder you could function at all, you would have to eat 24-7 to keep a normal blood sugar level.

My Dr. said a fasting blood sugar of more than 100 and a fasting insulin of more than 20 indicated IR. My sugar was 102 which is O.K. but my insulin was 31. Not O.K. She said definitely IR.

oh wow...what test was that on? Mine was 23 on the serum insulin level test and that's bad, but surely 247 has to be a differnet test.
It might be a good idea to also post the units of measurement and the reference range (which is usually printed on lab result sheet. I have the impression that there might be more than one way to measure or express the results of an insulin test. For example the values listed on the Fertility Plus Hormone Levels & Fertility Bloodwork page (http://www.fertilityplus.org/faq/hor...vels.html#igtt) are much higher than what my lab sheet lists as the normal range (and as far as I can tell, the difference is not something simple like just moving a decimal point). If anyone know more about this, Please tell!

Help a cyster out, here!
My insulin level was 257.9!! My doc told me it was supposed to be between ~2-24. My office was also very concerned about my results and I said the same thing!!!! - No wonder I feel terrible!!! I was started on Metformin XR 1500mg/day then.
I definitely have good and bad days - they are regulated much better now that I'm on the Met and using the IR eating plan. Good luck!!!

When i was diagnosed my fasting insulin was 124 with a normal being less than 10, I had several people tell me they'd never seen numbers like that. It was no wonder that the GTT i'd done around the same time put me at a blood sugar of 53 at hour 4. I knew when that happened something else was going on..

Mine was 22 without Metformin, and 12 with Metformin...It's been awhile since I was tested, before being PG - Must have been about a year since my last blood test. I'm not on Met anymore, but ever since after being pregnant, my periods come religiously, so something good must be going on inside my body!
